Brand new 2013 990 baja, 800 miles, 1st service performed over this past weekend at dealership...

Was on the highway last night and got off at exit ramp...pulled clutch in an blipped throttle to downshift into lower gear and bike studdered and stalled. I pulled to the side and restarted her. Put bike in gear, moved to traffic signal, and rolled on and off throttle...bike stalled again... Started bike again and rode home with no more issues.

WTF is going on? I am going to go over bike tonight to see if the petcocks are fully open since the service was just performed. Anything else i should look into? kinked fuel line?

NEW YOUR CITY (must be shouted three times while circling the bike counterclockwise). Read your manual, the bike only operates properly if you are in Baja.

Sigh, sorry. I have only ridden with two 990's and both had weird idiopathic idle and stalling issues. One of them swore by a ECU reset ritual well-documented on a thread somewhere here in the KTM chatter. Great bike when they are sorted out though I always cringed when one of them used to bring it to my garage to work on, sheesh.

    Good luck.

Perform the 15minute idle procedure, see if that helps.

I think i got your answer: fuel pump! Mine busted at 600km its warrantied and i had the same problems you did!! Except when it happened to me it was pooring rain so i was double pissed!!

It kept shutting off after i put it second and gave some gas!! Bring it to your dealer quick ! So you can get it back quickly!! I have 4680km on mine since and everything is A-1!! Good luck!

That's so soon for the pump to be bad! I am thinking it's a fueling issue, only because you're able to start it and idle it. Almost like a bad pump or a clogged filter.

That would be pretty piss poor if it's the pump already though! :freaky

My mechanic thought it was me filling up the bike with gas real close to the edge when its specificaly said not too especially on the right side!!
It was not! He even thought it might be water in the tank or pump or filter since it happened when it was raining so much!! It was not! Last chance the pump it self! I'm not the first to who. It happens but it didn't happen often!!! So i'm pretty sure from the trouble he's having that it's the pump!! 600$ pump 3 hours of work! Warrantied! It is piss poor that on such a great bike you get a problem like that i totally agree!!

My 2010I bought new 7/11 did same things until I installed Power Commander V using the Akro map.

When I trade mine in on the new 1190R next year I am trusting (stupid I know) that all the reviews have been correct that KTM has solved the endemic fueling issues.

Well petcocks, vents, and all else seemed ok. Bike started right up and i let it run for 15 minutes at idle. I will let you all know if it happens again.

Although undocumented and made up by me, you are entering "Stage Two" KTM ownership.

Stage One = Total bliss. Euphoria.
Stage Two = Discovery. Reality. Commitment.
Stage Three = Invest. Repair. Replace.
Stage Four = Total bliss. Euphoria (again).

Stage Two might be the most difficult to overcome. Some cannot (me), many more have. There is no definite timeline for each stage, although Stage Two comes on within a year of purchase. Total bliss and euphoria are not obtainable during Stages Two and Three (too much focus on problems and repairs). Not sure if Stage Four is everlasting or if you go back and forth between three and four (most likely). I really, really liked Stage One. Stage Two?...not so much :D. I friggin' loved riding the 990r!

I will not stop until I feel satisfied in my bitching. It's been less than a month and maybe 4-5 posts. By your agitation, I guess the truth hurts. Maybe if more KTM990 owners raised a stink 5-7 years ago and not chalked off poor design and materials to "charactor" we would not be having this conversation. It will be interesting to watch how KTM addresses 1190 teething issues in 2014 and beyond.
