I've known Bruce over 20 years in rally circles... seen him laugh like a hyena (often :D)... and also face some pretty tough/hard situations during a numerous amount of arduous races... I've never heard that tone is his voice though...

    gutted :cry

    Not fun....

:nod You could hear that laugh from a couple of hundred yards away.

He's been around a long time, and paid his dues. You could never say that he didn't give it a good try.

You got to feel for Bruce and his team having all that effort ruined by bad fuel must have been a hard pill to swallow.

If Ollo finishes in 10th, Would that not make him the highest finishing Australian Car driver in the Dakar?
    Maybe Troy would know...:evil

    Yep...

Garlands 11th outright in 2009 (in the first evo of the D-Max pick up) was the benchmark. Both Bruce and Geoff had hopes of being top 10... in the field of competitors this year, that was always gonna be a big challenge. Olholms Toyota Hilux - and being part of the multi-vehichle Overdrive team - has the outright perfermance to deliver and run up near the front from day one, while I think Bruce was hoping that his smaller (aussie) two car effort (along Australian dakar rookie Adrian DiLallo & veteran Steve Riley in an earlier version of the Isuzu D-Max) that with a consistent run and the reliability/pace of the potent deisel powerplant would see him sit inside the top 30 by day two/three and work his way forward from there.

Both are good drivers, and Geoff's 10th place will be the best result by an Aussie ever in auto class... a just reward for his efforts and rise in Aussie cross country rallying (autos) since 2007... when he entered the first WA Safari in an (almost) stock V6 NM Pajero - he converted the wife's shopping wagon... as he said; "disconected the aircon and put in some rally seats" :lol3.

Since then Geoff has refined the Pajero over the years (installed a V8 as is the Oz norm and major suspension upgrades and chassis mods) and runs in the Safari as part of a two car team with twice Auto winner Steve Riley in his similar spec SWB version Pajero. Geoff quickly became one of the top pedalers in the safari auto category, and since 2011 has also campaigned the DAKAR... first in 2011/2012 running in a UK built Rally Raid Desert Warrior Proto, then during 2012 signing a deal with the Belgian based Overdrive Toyota team to run one of their V8 Lexus engined Toyota Hilux's - where they lease the vehichle, and team support from.

The 10th spot will be a great reward for their effort! :clap

Old time Safari bike fans will remember Geoff for his fighting Safari battle with eventual winner - John Hederics - back in 1992... where he dogged (and often led) the factory XR 600R aboard his kitted DR 400... A great battle, and along with his numerous enduro, A4DE and ISDE accomplishments... Ollie is one of many of the "old school" Safari moto competitors that have successfully crossed over to four wheels and been super competitive! :clap

Looking at the times, it appears Rod F still hasn't swapped motors. That's impressive, given how hard he's been charging in all stages.
What caused Fish's 9 hour penalty? Steep old penalty. Did he murder a quad rider or something? :huh

The rear shock went off, so he had to back off, got it serviced that night and all was good again

if you look at the final results, lots of the top 30 have done the whole rally on the same motor..............................makes all the guff about UXB 450's a lot of bollock's...............they are as easy as strong as the big bore single's of the pre 450 limit era

Awesome job to all the aussies, hold your heads high, it is the toughest race on earth. From a lounge room 10,000km's away it is impossible to comprehend the toughness of this event. You are all champions:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap

Yep... missed 10th by 25 seconds... for 11th outright.

Guess both he and Goose will have to front up in 2014 and see who can be first Aussie to break into the top 10...?

What a great rally this year! Well done to the hard charging Aussies: 14th and 15th for Rod (effectively as a privateer) and Ben. Strange and Smith in there too. Pavey clocks another solid result. And Fish: Husqvarna would be crazy not to have him aboard for another year after such a top effort: rode like a trojan for the team and allowed his top rider to salvage parts out on a stage. Like it or not, that is the role of a "domestique" and usually cements them as the master's apprentice to step up in the next year or two. Top work, blokes :clap

yeah and he gave away a certain 8th or at least 9th 0utright by being a good guy and helping another stuck auto competitor on day 12 and then got stuck himself :cry
