While you're at it, you can post messages of support to the GHR boys here. They'd love to hear from all of you.

Can someone post a list of riders and all of their sponsors? If I can support them I certainly will.

I do believe our boys have a great shot at making it in the top 10. Just need some luck to fall their way.

    All the best boys.

You can see a list of sponsors for GHR down the right hand side of the website.

There's a complete list of competitors and country of origin on the Dakar 2013 website:

    http://www.dakar.com/dakar/2013/us/rider/rider-list-bikes.html

Click on each one and you'll get a brief bio (a bit less brief in the case of Cyril), as well as details about bike and sponsors.

FWIW, the Red Bull site is very nice: http://www.redbull.com/en/motorsports/offroad/event-series/1331578706887/rally-dakar-2013

Good interviews and vids - some of the footage is pretty spectacular ...

    Dakar 2013: Pictures from Lima

Time for some more pictures from Lima.

The boys hired a driver for two hour tour, visiting the start area and scrutineering zone just to get their bearings. Historical sites tell part of the the story of Lima. There are some grand old buildings but plenty not so grand also. The GHR bivouac in Lima was quite comfortable. Instead of camping in a foot of dust with everyone else they took over the whole Melia Lima hotel. Management arranged a photo shoot for themselves , the underground carpark was the comandeered as pits and whenever the truck needed space all the other teams had to move their cars.

Lima: the Dakar crew briefing. Hard work but someone has to do it.

Lima: the night before Dakar! Glen, Brett, Todd, Paul, a charitable local and Warren.

After the riders briefing there was total chaos. No taxis could be found. What do you do but pull over a local and give them some team stickers and a bit of cash. He did it just to help out and pulled of some radical moves in grid lock traffic including a u-turn across six lanes of traffic to deliver the boys home to the Melia. Just an example of the atmosphere over here.

Great to get all the pre race updates from the Aussie competitors- but very little info re Rod Fagotters preparations. What team is he actually with? Or does he run his own gig?
I know a lot of people here think that he might be a bit down on raw speed compared to the more fancied Aussie riders but given his experience and attitude he has every chance to do very well- finishing best placed Aussie even?
Would be nice to read a bit more about him here.
    Cheers waldecker

    Are these race numbers correct?

The Dakar 2013 site has Grabham as 57 - and Todd Smith as 156 - and Warren as 131 - didn't check the others.

They're not the RACE NUMBERS hoots...

They are the PROLOGUE RESULTS (positions) those riders achieved.

Only a short special of 13km but all of our guys are within 1.35min from the front of the field. It was a relatively easy section. We have the ability there so hopefully they can build on there positions. Let the rally begin proper and see the true colours of all riders and machines shine through.

Paul Smith on the Quad starts in 14th after the prologue, good resul there, and hopefully he can take it too the likes of the patronellis etc and get to the front.

Side note - not sure what happen to robby gordon in his hummer, after the prologue in 136th 10mins form the lead. like him or hate him, he hads personality.

    He blew reverse gear apparently.

Said he did it while being to cautious on a dune attempt..

The gear box that they use in the Hummer/buggy/thingy has a weak reverse gear, you also have to stop the engine before putting it into reverse, and then stop the engine again to put it into a forward gear (it is designed purely for racing, So reverse really shouldn't be used for much).

If you try to put it into reverse with the engine running, it won't go in, or will go bang once it does go in.

Well thats gotta suck for Robby, some hard work for him to do now, chasing that win that eludes him so far. The traffic in front of him will be on Robby alert. That would have been a weak link that i thought would have been sorted.

When I say a "weak" reverse gear, I mean it isn't as strong as the forward gears, not that it has a habit of falling apart at random times.

I think you just have to be a bit more careful when using reverse.

I got my info from this post by Strongbad.
