Well I think I said it in the Bivouac - I was not able to get things together for me to enter Dakar 2013. :cry Reading this thread was kinda depressing.

I have my sights on 2014 now, but this year the plan is to chase the Dakar on my 800 for 6 days or so with a couple of mates. So you will get not much competition from me in the F5 thread, but one more source of on-the-ground info and photos. :deal

    Awesome!

Quinn is my dark horse for stage wins... and what a style on the bike! Never get tired of watching him hang it all out on that segment before the huge ass-over-end crash last year ... he's the closest you can get to a Robby Gordon of the bikers

Not to clutter up the HRC-files thread with historical non-related (to Honda) dakar-ista like waffle...

The QC post (about his reported Husky/Speedbrain ride for january) and Brodo's reference to his (almost) "take no prisoners" riding style,
reminded me of a conversation I had only a few weeks back with a Finnish friend, about past Dakar riders who "pushed the envelope" pace wise.

The subject of our conversation was of course, the Finnish 7 times Enduro world champion and multiple ISDE gold medalist - Kari Tiainen;:deal who rode the Dakar with KTM a number of times (1999 to 2002?), and while he was from the outset, always very quick and able to run at a pace up with (or ahead of) the leaders... he frequently "binned it" with his aggressive style and approach to the longer desert stages... attacking them like it was a WEC special test. As a result... i'm not sure if he ever finished a Dakar?

Probably the all time record holder in the "balls to the wall" dakar attack stakes, is KTM's own Heinz Kinigadner... His list of rallye crashes (and near misses) and legacy as the "the fastest rider never to win a dakar" is legendary, and stems back to the very fist INCAS Rallye in Peru 1988; where he launched his KTM 350 Incas rally bike of the side of a mountain pass during one stage... and earned the nickname "el condor" for a while.

Some of the aerial footage of him attacking the Peterhansel/Yamaha Sonauto armada - running solo up out at the front of the field - on the early versions of the 620/640cc LC4 Rallyes/Adventure; during the 1995/1996 Dakar's was breathtaking.

So who is your favourite "win it... or bust trying" DAKAR legend...? :ear

    Roulette in the rocks...

Curious... looking back at that footage from 2012... Barreda's crash looked as (if not more) spectacular than the one Quinn had... yet he got up (even though cautiosly) and continued... whereas QC's trip over the bars ended up with the medics... :huh

Whenever you "race" sometimes there is just something out there with your name on it... at Dakar there a thousands of kilometers of stuff with places for names.

Dear / a friend / a, I am contacting you through this email to inform you that from today I no longer part of the team Bordone Ferrari Racing Team for the non-renewal of the contract that we unía.La link between the Bordone Ferrari Racing team and I was born about a year ago with the mission to develop a strong competition team for the Dakar Rally and the World raids.En little time we have together a young and ambitious project with a lot of hard work and good will . The results also accompanied us on all tests. And in my case I am very proud of the seventh place finish in last year's Dakar. No However, I feel I have met some of the goals I had set and that the project has to go its own way without me. I have the conviction that I have covered a stage in my career and now is the time to look for new incentives and new challenges, I hope I can explain very pronto.A Bordone Ferrari Racing Team and my former teammate and I wish you much luck and success. How's the GHR Honda effort going? The effort some of the Aussies are going to is amazing.

Rumors have been abound since the Baja de Espana just before they launched Oldrati. Then the stalled Mi1, rumors of the mechanics and then Fernando Prades not being paid...Where there's smoke, there's fire. I tried to contact then several times for quotes on their side of the story as far as the rumors go, but have not received any replies.
