There are outfits in China that will make copies of paper manuals that are essentially indistinguishable from the originals. It is extremely likely these manuals are a copyright infringement. If this doesn't bother you, they're good values.

Personally I think if I spent $10 k on a new bike I would expect it to come with a shop manual not the POS owners.manual you get these days.

Mark, all too sad is there are copies of almost everything made coming out of China today. They have absolutely no moral compass, to control this. Also, with today's economy, if something that is like something else you want at half the price, chances are good that is what we're taking home...tp

Starkmojo, I agree. I spent $22k on a BMW and most owner's manual pages said "to handle this required procedure, simply take it to your local BMW service center and have them do the work." I guess this is how they keep the service centers open...tp

I got my MCN today with a complete test.
They seemed to like it a lot - rated it 4.5 out of 5.
They made no remarks about the gas tank size (something that took up hundreds of posts here:D).
They said the suspension could / should be better (no surprise, but they suggested Intiminators and aftermarket reservoir shocks).
Quarter mile was 12.53@ 110.16 (but top end is electronically limited to 110mph - could have been better?).
    0 to 60 in 4.58
    0 to 100 in 10.73
    60 to 0 in 136' (non-ABS test bike)
65mph=3730rpm (they DID say a 6 speed or taller geared 5th would be nicer/better).

They loved the look/style/fit/finish (who doesn't?) :dunno

    Your math is off: 4.5x80+79.39 = $439.39

From the July, 2013 edition of Cycle World magazine:

    1/4 mile: 11.79 sec. @ 110.87 mph

    0-60 MPH: 3.3 sec.

    0-100 MPH: 8.6 sec.

It seems that the bike might have done better in the quarter mile, except that it has a limiter on it. Top measured speed is usually right around 112 mph, which is apparently due to the 180 kmh restriction for the Japanese market. The limiter has never been removed from the bike for export to other countries. Those that have bumped up against the limiter indicated that the motor still had plenty of grunt left when it was cut short. That won't have an impact on me, but for some, I'm sure it is a bummer.

Yes, I had to compute the $80 per hour labor rate from the 4.5 hrs and $360 labor charge and dropped the ball.:cry

BTW, the totals for all the service items were 8.5 hrs ($680) + $260.05 parts which might be $940.05 (but I've been wrong before:D).

FWIW, the BMW F800GT they tested in the same issue was 5.2 hrs ($416) + $120.42 parts = $536.42
I know it's a twin, but hey, it's a BMW twin with a 12,400 mile valve adjustment interval. :dunno

OK, here's what you do. Take $15 out of each paycheck for a year and you have $780 in a year. That will pay for a valve adjustment (check) and a new set of tires. How many of you will ride 8000 in a year? Not many. If you cannot displine yourself to do that then you have NO BUSINESS buying any new bike.
