The Cycle World show is next week ( which I have a bike on display ) so if the X fits me I might be selling/trading in my 07 Vstrom 1000 ....

You mean you might trade a 1000 for a 500, what appeals to you about that? Might be interested in that show, where and when will it be, which is your bike? TIA

I bought the 1000 for 2 up touring and now we have a sidecar outfit and my wife has her own bike. The 1000 Vstrom has fueling/clutch issues from the factory,so unless you spend alot of $$$ it'shard to ride slow and I commute on it everyday year round. Also I only get about 37mpg commuting. I bought my wife a GS500 last summer and really like riding it but it's just to small for me ( size wise ) thats why if the X is bigger it might work great. I will have my sidrcar rig that I built in the Seattle Cycle World show..

I sat on it last week at the Long Beach show. It surprises me, but I can see myself loving that bike!
The old saying about "riding a slow bike fast, rather than a fast bike slow" has a certain appeal.
I loved the ergos (6'1", 34" inseam) and balance, and was surprised that an inexpensive bike could look so good.

The only draw back to the bike is that it won't be available till April-June..
I'm going to Deadhorse on June 20th,I need to either do alot of work to my Vstrom or buy a new bike and getting the X a week before I leave is not good OR it now showing up in time !!.

The new 500s are featured in Cycle World and Motorcyclist this month. They're looking pretty sweet. :D

I got a 2012 CBR250 and a 2007 Yamaha FZ6 I was thing about trading the FZ6 for the CBR500 . But then I realize the FZ makes twice the h.p. and gets about about 55 mpg . It does every thing better than the CBR except the CBR makes more torque at low rpm's . I think I'll keep the FZ6 and maybe sell the 250 instead.

FZ6 is an awesome bike, no doubt. Too bad more people couldn't see it.

I love my torque.. but I'd make an exception for the FZ6, I love it.

I think this video shows the 500r with the Honda top box, must be the same set up as for the x.
I just don't get the race bike, what is that, the slow az group? In that article, the guy said he got it up to 100 on the straight at the track, about what you might expect. I still think that this will be the same bike everywhere, no power increase for the states.

What's there to get? No one starts out their racing career on a Superbike or GP bike. The EJC is for riders as young as 14 years old.

Exactly. European Junior Cup = spec racing
    Spec racing = good. :deal

The Ninja 250 has been raced for years at tracks all over, and the racing is tight and fun to watch. If I were capable, I bet it would be fun to be involved in as well.

And it (spec racing) doesn't cost a crapton to be involved with, another plus.

Honda has a history with 500cc racing: the CB500 had its own one-make series.

James Toseland (WBSK champ, not so champ in MotoGP) won the CB500 Cup when he was 16.

There is a Mini-Twins series (mostly tuned SV650s and ER650s) that lap the TT course at 120mph+.

Not that this, really, has anything at all to do with the new 47bhp Hondas.
