I changed the stock BT020s on my 650R at 16-17k, rear still wasn't at the

In order to sell the 500s for riders in the new EU A2 class license tier the bike has to weigh a minimum of 175 kg or 385 lbs. This license class change effectively requires manufacturers that intend to sell bikes to riders less than 24 years old bring to market bikes that weigh 385 lbs or more curb weight ready-to-ride and have a maximum of 47 hp. Honda cannot ignore the huge UK and European market so the 500s are not going to weigh in under 385 lbs. Honda US says they weigh 420-430 lbs. depending on model.
I've been following this thread as well S various others concerning the CB500, and have somehow missed two things:
Where does the CB redline? I rode the NC700x, was put off by the 6500 rev limiter, otherwise a nice bike...
And does it have enough electrical output to run auxiliary lighting, heated grips, etc? Thinking of getting a bike for escort duty, the CB, NC, weestrom, etc all being considered.
You didn't miss this information it just hasn't been known for sure yet as the bikes are not for sale yet and no in-depth review of the platform has been done yet.
I would guess from the general architecture of the engine (DOHC 8 valve, shim under bucket valve train, square bore x stroke, parallel twin) it will develop max hp close to 9,000 rpm and redline 10 or 11,000 rpm. Anyone's guess as to alternator output but it should be the equal or close to other middleweights - maybe 325 to 425 watts - enough for heated gear and a modest set of aux lights at riding rpm.
We are all waiting release of more information and the first motojournalist reviews.
From the vid a few pages back it looks like redline is around 9k.
9k would great, with usable power at 6-8... My 919 redlined at 9500, and it had all the punch I needed; granted, it was a bigger engine, but I'm liking the looks of the CB500X.
why? why does this put you to sleep? 9k is plenty. i don't know how many times i've even come close to 9k on my SV650 in 10k miles..
Bikes that are geared low with a high redline are a huge giggle to wind out on a nice road.
It also helps them to feel faster than they really are, particularly if they have a light flywheel.
Different strokes for different folks.
I think he rides a rev happy Kawasaki 300 with a 13,000 rpm redline?

Right now the 300 is a midrange stonker that needs a tune to pull to 12,500 soft limiter. Small displacement bikes should rev. That is just the way it should be. That's why my 300 has a tune.
It was competent and perfectly useful, but lacked the top end that I really know it should have. It is still kinda dull as the low/mid is so friggin strong the top doesn't hit, it just pulls. I can ride it around town in 6th gear with a +1 CS and just roll it on to beat traffic. Boring. I expected a Ninja 250 like powerband, where you need to row the gears and dance on the shifter, but with more top end. The engine is good but it isn't exciting. I bet the 500 Hondas will be the same. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

You should see him in the gun threads in the basement.
You'll be able to get rid of carbs, and get MUCH better brakes.

Experienced riders will probably rev the hell out of the 500. I would, but I'd like to see how quickly it spins too.
