Remember the CB450S in 1988? At least in Canada, Honda made it available here. In the US, they send the VTR250. Here, the CB450S didn't sell. It offers 43 hp for a wet weight of 414 lbs (188 kg). Torque was 27.5 lb-ft. It was the same old air cooled twin from the Nighthawk 450. And again with a drum brake at the rear. The Kawi EX500 was just 200$ more. For the same price, we, canadians could get the 2 stroke RZ350. So this new trio of 500 is about the same performance wise i guess. 47,5 hp and 30 lb-ft for 194 kg wet. I had plenty of fun with a GS400S a long time ago. So, for sure, i'll try the CB500F this spring. And maybe, it will be my first Honda.

Thanks for that. I really want to see an F and an X in person. I like light, flickable bikes.

    Thanks for posting that.

I don't understand all the engineering, but what that seems to say is:

: the bike is intended for a wide range of markets; as suspected, it's a cheap commuter in the first world, and a premium bike in emerging markets.

: it's eco-friendly, and quiet; looks like it's meant to be both fun and frugal.

: the internals are designed to last a while; hence the long service intervals.

: light where it needs to be, driveable where it needs to be; this might make it boring to ride, but it looks like you can ride it hard if that's your style.

    :D

the X still looks perfect for me!

edit: also looks like Honda is stating about 64mpg, in those specs at least.

The WMTC spec for the NC700X is about 66 mpg, so this is a good indicator that the 500's should get mileage in the same ballpark as the 700's, perhaps a little lower. I expect most riders of the 500 are going to have push the engine a bit harder so I'm expecting 60 mpg might be an overall average figure for touring usage where you're not thrashing it too hard. Which means 200 or so miles should be a comfortable cruising range with a reasonable reserve, a bit more with the X which has a slightly bigger fuel tank.

I had the opportunity to test-sit all the 500's at Daytona. I'm old, tall and fat. Most comfy was the 500x, followed by (BION) the 500r and the 500f. I really like the x, it just feels and looks right from the saddle. I can see a used one in my future in the next couple years. The R had a better seating position than the f, which surprised me.

They have two red ones on the floor. Sat on em. Turned the key on and looked at the gauge cluster... barely can't wait for the x!!!!. Atleast one of them is an abs model. Didnt look at the other to see if it was.
