    The motorcyclist.com... review says that he had 30 mpg of fuel consumption; according to my calculation, it is equal to 7.85 lt/100 km. I can't see the 20% less consumption, if this is the case.

    Presumably US gallons as it was a US magazine ? Also look at how it was being ridden :evil:evil:evil:evil:evil

    I am still very keen to see what it will do in 'normal' use

    I totally agree with you. I still find almost 8 liters too much. But in the review its not described at all how the bike was ridden. Some may see 8 or 9l/100km even with a 600cc bike.

    Of course it would be a drama if that consumption would be under normal conditions. If that is the case, i start then to believe that KTM is not making any kind of effort reducing the consumption.

    7.85 litres per 100km comes out at 36 mpg. I would say that is actually pretty good given the riding style we see in the video. My 990 would do that sort of figure without having half the fun the tester was having .........

    The first video shows everything I don't want from an adventure bike, if I want to ride like that on the road I'd get another R1, but I don't, so the 950 it us for a while longer.

    I used to have fixed 7+ lt/100 km consumption with 990 and yes, I can not ride even half hard of them. At the moment, combined, I have a consumption of 5.5 - 6.5 lt/100 km on GSA.
    Generally my main concern is the range; if a bike is capable of riding 300 - 350 km between the lights, under normal touring ride conditions, for me it's very ok. In the city rides or temporary full throttle rides, mostly I skip checking the consumption either.
    But range is important for long trips.

    this is what the guy riding in Africa for more then 10.000 km says in regards to the feul consuption in off road:
    The petrol consume is 6l/100km. With the 990R I used last year in similar contitions 7,5 l/100km.

    You do something wrong with your calculations :1drink 7.85 l/100 is almost 30mpg. And no . 30mpg is high consumption.

    I was working in imperial (UK) gallons with the 36mpg - 30mpg would be about right with (smaller) US gallons !!

    Pebble you are right, but I agree with Alarm, if this is the general case, it's still consuming a lot more than what has been introduced at the beginning.

    I suppose he (the reviewer) meant 30mpg (US) . If that would be Imperial that would be almost 9.5l/100km which i want to hope it is not the case.

    But at least we seem to all agree no matter if US or UK gallons , everything that is above 7.5l/100 is too much.

    I agree - if the 30 (US) mpg or 36 (UK) mpg figures prove to be right then it will be disappointing - that is worse than the 990 and everyone is expectig better.

    But in the 'real world' I don't see many people riding like those journalists were. I get to play next week and will what sort of MPG figures I get with slightly more restrained throttle activity !

    I betting this bike will get at least 50mpg Imperial on road riding. Its new and fuel injected and new bikes are always better than the last one. Hell, my old carburated 06 950 got 45mpg riding briskly.

    Umitc thinks like i do. Although it's disconcerting when a 500 lb bike gets lower fuel mileage than a 300 hp and 4000 lb automobile, here's the way I think about it:
    Wide open throttle, redlining through the twisties, the bike's job is to provide as much power as asked for, and to do this it has to burn as much fuel as possible at that moment. The ability to burn a lot of fuel quickly is part of what makes this bike special.
    Tell me what the fuel mileage is when droning along at a steady 75 mph. I will spend more hours riding like this than wide open throttle up to redline.
    Then interesting thing is that we often get a win win situation where the larger cc bike gets better mileage at steady cruise than the smaller, weaker bike which is geared lower.

    If you will take the time to go read Joe Pilcher's thread, IIRC, he is averaging better than 40 mpg. While I am sure you can get worse, you can probably get better when needed. My SMR went from 30 to 45 depending on how hard I rode it. If the 1190 will duplicate that, where is the problem?

    90% of the posters on here who are continuously crapping on the 1190 have already convinced themselves that they don't want one so why don't you just let it go and piss someone else off?
