KTM PRESENTERAR EN HELT NY ADVENTURE GENERATION!

    published at 19.09.2012
The world premiere of two completely new motorcycles is being celebrated at the international motorcycle fair INTERMOT where KTM will present the 1190 Adventure und Adventure R.

The two completely newly developed models represent the Adventure Generation 2013 and herald the start of the pure new adventure as of February 2013. With KTM’s typical success ingredients: the very powerful two cylinder motor - light as a feather – high quality components – these two differently positioned, sports-oriented touring bikes have been created deploying a top-of-the-range, unique package of electronic assistance systems that will ensure that they rise to the top of the segment.

Whereas the 1190 Adventure, above all focused on use on asphalt (wide 19 and 17 inch tires) is especially for the pleasure of versatile road users, the Adventure R, in the best KTM tradition shows what is feasible from a sporting perspective and into the bargain invites you to undertake plenty of offroad action.

Also especially pleasing is that despite incomparably fine components and finishing, the new Adventure models are still oriented towards the price and weight of their popular predecessors.

The 1190 Adventure at a glance
    - Highly developed LC8 V-two cylinder with double ignition, the latest Keihin motor management, electronic fuel injection with drive-by-wire and anti-hopping clutch

    - 230 kg with a full tank

    - New innovation: Offroad modus for ABS and MTC!
    - Very stable latticed tubular frame made of extremely rigid chrome- molybdenum- steel
    - High quality suspension components from WP Suspension
    - Tubeless road tires on wire spoke wheels with airtight rim – 120/70-19 front; 170/60-17 rear
    - Adjustable footrests, seat height, handlebar position and windshield
    - The very latest VDO combi instruments

I think they just stated their design intent very clearly.

I think I'll hold onto my 950 AdvS until US Highland gets their act together.......

So does this mean they are going to continue to make the 990 adventure?

Well, if my figures hold up; A stock 990R with fuel is about 500 lbs, whereas the 1190R is 506 lbs with fuel.

I hope the gas tank on the 1190 is at least 6-7 gallons. If so, and the 1190 has comparable ground clearance and suspension travel figures it wouldn't make much sense to continue making the 990.

great minds think alike. I asked the same thing a week ago: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?p=19556749#post19556749

if I were ktm I'd have turned the old SMT into the new 1190 adventure to satisfy the multistrada adventure crowd and then released a much lighter, smaller motor 'R' version .... but I'm not.

geeks photos are cracking me up :D

So it's purely an answer to the multistrada and GS, altough the GS seems more off-road oriented then the new ADV.

To bad... On the other hand, i wil never buy another new motorcycle so it's cool to have all the fresh used 990s on the market. So if i ever get bored of my carbs the chances on a sweet deal are looking positive.

Still going for a testride when it launches. Can't judge a bike purely on first impressions....the old adv's are a good example of that. :D

I think they should make a carb'ed, non-abs 990 that comes with a 2-into-1 Akra and other essential off-road stuff (better skid plate, battery, Rekluse clutch). It should have a kick-start option like the off-road bikes as well as larger tanks. Suede seat, too.:clap :freaky

Youd kick start a 990 Vtwin. Good luck with that :eek1
