Probably the guy who replaced the guy who was fired for offering the last one :lol3

Don't get me wrong the Adventure single is a super bike but, like the SE, KTM doesn't see a profitable market for it (them).

Thanks Hair that answered my question!

Upgraded suspension on the R well they think it is due to stickers on the R. I know the R always had upgraded suspension but the way the dakar was going its suspension (told by Dealer) was the same quality just not as tall.

    Thanks again.

    longer travel (220mm vs. 190mm).

the weight of 235kg is incl. fuel., so about 217 without?

Just heard from local dealer that the plan KTM told them today was that the 1190 would not be coming to the USA until late 2013 as a 2014 model. So the rest of the world can prove them out and all the bitching and moaning from 'mericans about the death of the 990 can stop for another year.

Looks likr the R has a leading axle fork, and the regular model has a regular ( road ) fork.(axel inline with the fork).
anyone else see the same thing?

I feel the Engineers did a superb job. Attacked areas where most complaints were centered on. And built a great bike. I am sure it is going to be a great performing bike. I like the looks. There is only so much they can do with a tank. Sure they tested all types of builds. You know dang well they don't want to look like a GS. But i am sure they went with what will work best performance wise functionality and ergo for this bike.

Of course time will tell. But I am glad KTM is making an effort one way or the other. Big bike or middle weight.

I dunno. From the side the Adv has always been kind of an ugly duck:

Maybe they'll give one to that fellow from MCN to try out.

Definitely needs a skid plate though.

Yeah, I guess they gave up on the OEM tupperware one. It'll be interesting to see what the aftermarket comes up with, that RC8 sump down low doesn't help.

I did the exact same comparison side-by-side. To be honest, I really like it. Remember guys, once it's gone through the typical upgrade most of us do it would be pretty nice (assuming they'd be available...Superplush treatment, Renazco Seat, BlackDog Skidplate,Wings exhaust etc)....I think it's pretty sweat. And I would be willing to bet it's within 15 lbs of the990 with oil/coolant and same amount of gas. I mean, look at the 990's stock exhaust, if you can define ugly, you've got it right there.
In any case, this gets a +1 from me. :drif

It looks like the std version has electronically adjustable suspension, whereas the R has a conventional rear shock.

Check out the photos, there is a black box with "WP" on it just behind the shock. Also the std shock has no visible remote reservoir.

And yes, someone mentioned the R has leading axle forks, whereas the std model doesn't.

I kinda like how it looks, though the exhaust is too sqiddly for my taste.

I'm reserving my judgement 'till I'm standing next to one (or test riding one).

    Nice to see change.

The new KTM looks like shit to me, where is the skid plate and the off-roadness. They just created a new V-Strom.

Yeah, that's gonna need a jumbo size skid plate -
