When I spoke with Amber, she said most likely the river will be dry by this time of year. :cry Unless they get hammered with snow and rain.

That was why we chose to move the sites for the Tech/work area close to the storage area. More room for bike work if need be and if we don't book up the Tent island, we'll keep the noise to one corner and everyone closer.

Just a heads up.

Great to see the excitement and riders making plans to attend! :freaky

Hey Tom,
I'm tentatively planning on going to this as well if you are looking for another riding partner.

CJ reports that the river will not be running when we are there. Got a call back from Brian at the campground today but couldn't take the call. Hope to touch base with them tomorrow. I'll ask about fishing in the area in September. Hopefully there is some place to fish that time of year. I have a four-piece Temple Fork Outfitters 5/6 weight rod that works pretty well on the bike.

Anybody interested in riding out together? I know CJ put together a group, but I think they are full up. I'm interested in staying off the slab and looking for interesting things to photograph along the way. I could ride down to Missouri or up to Minnesota to hook up with somebody. Well, as long as it doesn't look like this in Minnesota at the time: :lol3

When I talked to the campground to reserve my cabin, I was told that the river would definitely be flowing.

The best way to know for sure would be a quick call before you depart.

Holy Smokes. Talk about old times! I don't think our paths have crossed in person since 2006 Great River Gravel Ride. Or was it 2005? Either way, hope to see you this summer!

It was flowing last summer, but it was so low they closed it to all activities including fishing and tubing. It was putting too much stress on the fish.

That would be fun to do that route.

Sounds like a GREAT plan to try and fit some of this in. I'll be working on my CO rider routing late Feb once we done with Indy. AT this time the group ride is full from WI, but if you have interest in joining in, please email me incase any riders drop out in the up coming months. This is a fun Ride, not a Tour Group.

I've got some great news for the Tech camping session at the campground. We have a helpful participant willing to shed some light on the mysteries of bike setup to anyone interested.......

More details posted soon! :freaky

I will also be updating the CJ tech weekend thread from the depths with this current location and event info. I don't want to pull interest from the KTM Rally. Hope that's OK and makes things more clear.

These are two different events. Sorry for any confusion.

Wed at the Steam Boat Springs Camp ground:

James Siddall, owner of Super Plush Suspension, will give you an overview of how suspension functions, with a focus on Adventure bikes, and how best to optimize for riding with and without heavy loads. Breaking it down to layman's terms, James will help you understand how to develop your suspension to suit your needs.

James has worked in professional racing for the last fourteen years, winning five AMA national road-racing championships. Working at the factory level gives James the opportunity to work with some of the most brilliant minds in motorcycle racing, as well as the finest riders and technicians, and the exposure to the latest concepts in suspension design. Hands-on testing allows him to maximize the potential of these components and translate it into the best solution for every range of suspension, especially his personal favorites in the KTM line.

This will take place in the CJ Tech Corner of the Tent Island.

I finally got in touch with Amber and reserved campsite 134 along the river for the 10th through the 15th, if anyone wants to share that campsite. It's right by the river that will be flowing still at that time of year, and Amber said it was the best site in that area for shade. :clap

I'm really interested in doing this, but I don't want to do it alone. http://www.backcountrydiscoveryroutes.com/COBDR

I think the best plan for me would be starting at waypoint 1 at the border in Arizona and stopping for the rally in Steamboat Springs just before the rally in September. Would anybody out there be interested in doing that leading up to the KTM Rally? It's the better part of 700 miles, off road, so probably three days riding taking time -- maybe two to get to Steamboat. Anybody at all interested?
