Does anyone know if there are any kind of "passes" required to travel, park or camp along the UTBDR or the COBDR? In Washington we have the Discover Pass that can be required in some locations. I never thought to ask about Utah or Colorado. :ear

Me and Rally West tow our bikes So. Cal. to Moab leaving Sept. 5 or 6. There may be an extra space for 3rd bike. Staying a night at cabin at Riverside Oasis RV Resort, staging support vehicle there. Next day we'll ride to Cortez and start COBDR up to SS campground.

If anyone is looking for a staging area and camping/ cabins en route from the West... Riverside Oasis RV Resort in Moab...ask for Misty. Tell them you're doing KTM Rally, no discounts but will try to group an area. 1-877-285-7757.

Yes if you have any problems we will be coming. We will probably not take the easy routes around so we will be on the regular route. We won't be starting at Cortez until early afternoon.

I was a little worried about fuel for the COBDR, so I found a way to add a gallon. :D

Why do I get the feeling that was cheaper to do than the RotopaX container and mount I just bought... :huh:baldy

Guessing that's some sort of automotive/truck/ATV bracket and container?

The gas can is from Reda: http://www.redagascan.com It's designed to fit in the saddlebag of a Harley.

The bracket was a sheet of 1/8th aluminum this past Wednesday, followed by a few quality days with a vise, a grinder, and a BFH. :lol3

I was thinking about the Rotopax as well, or the Kolpin: http://www.basspro.com/Kolpin-ATV-Fuel-Pack-Jr-/product/10202622/?cmCat=CROSSSELL_THUMBNAIL

I just couldn't figure out how to mount one on my bike. I wanted to carry the extra gas as low as possible on the bike to keep stress off of the subframe. The Reda was the only gas can that I could find that looked like it would work. I think a standard 2-gallon would work just as well on the foot peg, but all of the ones I could find in the stores had the new, modern, very crappy seal on the top. In the end, the Reda looked like the best option for me.

I dunno about that bungee cord there, Orangecicle. :eek1. Perhaps a web strap or cam loop would keep that can on for more than a mile in offroad mode.

Use Rok-straps - they don't come off, the length is adjustable, and they keep they tension on, and qwik disconnet to get off. Perfect motorcycle straps.

Never using bungees again after all the crap I lost over the years - including small gas cans like yours.

See you on the COBDR or at the KTM Rally

Well, I can confirm that the stupid looking bungee cords have been "field" tested: :lol3

But you are right. I'll find a better solution. :lol3

Thanks to ABUCK99 I am able to attend the rally. He will be able to trailer out my 990 from Georgia to Steamboat Springs. However since I am flying there and back, I am still trying to figure out what to do with my bike after the rally.

    I figure I have a few options:

    Ship it home
Find someone who can trailer it back to Georgia (will pay)
Ride it home (anyone riding back to the SE after the Rally?)
    Sell it
    Store it

Please let me know if you can assist me with one of these options. :ear

    Thanks
    SR

I will be heading south Sun/Mon as I've never ridden 550; was also hoping to mix in some dirt on my way down to that and on to Taos. Was not planning on doing the COBDR, strictly speaking, but did order up a Butler map of CO for mixed surface ride planning.
