Big John, I've been closely following the wildfires in Colorado and this year's fire appears to be more destructive than usual. Just wanted you and all the fellow RMAR riders living in Colorado to know that quite a few of us are thinking of your plight and hope everyone is safe. If you need anything, all you have to do is ask.

    Best,
    Tom

Thanks for the kind thoughts, Tom.

Both my home and Modette's home were in PreEvac areas. We were really close and it was upsetting.

Unfortunately, over 460 families lost their homes......and the destruction was horrible. Modette and I ended up perfectly fine, thank God.

Also, the rains have started to fall. Good rain around the area today. We need moisture and hope it is coming.

Anyway, all RMAR rides are full bore ahead......

    Colorado Fires......

    Mighty Rendezvous Crew!

I have received a handful of PM's and emails, expressing concerns about the fires that are burning in Colorado and if they will affect the 2013 RMAR Events and Rides.

While I cannot say, without a shadow of a doubt, we will not be affected, I can say that we are agile.

Remember back in 2011, when the 2nd Annual RMAR Rendezvous was scheduled for Sipapu, New Mexico and the fire restrictions forced us to move the event, only 24 days prior. Yes, it was a HUGE effort, but we pulled it off and ended up with a phenomenal Rendezvous, with about 150 riders attending, based out of Saguache, Colorado.

But, if there were an area that I would express little concern over, it is Silverton, Colorado in the San Juan Mountains. It is more likely that we will have to deal with afternoon showers and some wetness.....rather than fires, by the 3rd week in July. The monsoon will have kicked into full force.

You should also know that we have great flexibility in the Point to Point Routes, such as the CAM1000. In the spirit of true adventure riding, we will go where we can and detour when we must. PtP routes are usually finalized within 2 weeks of the ride, adjusting for current conditions.

So what am I saying.....??? I am saying, don't worry, as we have it covered and we will keep you updated.

    Hey Guys,
I'm getting excited about the ride. I was curious if you guys knew what the absolute lowest elevation we would ride this time. I'm going through my bike this weekend and it will be ready minus tires, jetting and any issues I might find.

If anyone has an extra bed the night before I'd be up for splitting the room with you. I'm planning on being in the area Friday night on getting acclimated to living above 200ft msl.

Lowest elevation will be about 5,000. ........highest, 13k.

I'll loop you in on the email string and you can ask the hotel question there as well.

Sorry dude, Charlie's House of Man is just not the acclimation I was looking for. Terry and his hippy entourage looks more enticing.

You rode a KLR John? I would have sold you mine. It was fully prepped for the mountains. I just didn't like the heavy weight and low ground clearance.

Big John, Just wanted to thank you and the entire RMAR organization for putting together another spectacular and challenging ride!! It was great to see the 2012 participants and meet the new riders.

The ride, once again, lived up to its' expectations. Gorgeous vistas, challenging trails, and opportunities to establish long lasting camaraderie.

For some the adventure continued after the ride was done when folks were trying to get home. Wild Bill and Mike, just to name a few, had quite the ordeal to get home.....

RMAR efforts to keep trails open to motorcycles is greatly appreciated! After speaking with some of the folks we met on the ride, it's evident that many folks are unaware of the considerable effort taking place to limit the ability of Adventure Riders to pursue their passion.

And, the new Bon Jovi is a fresh of breath air! I still can't believe his transformation from Mr. Grumpy to Mr. Happy. I know his demeanor concerned many of us as we were all waiting for him to snap :D

Thanks again for your efforts in putting the ride together!

Gentlemen, I have been vicariously enjoying your pre-ride chatter knowing I had an awesome family vacation planned in conflict with the ride dates and thus could not go even if approved. If Big John wants to shoot me for asking about next year's ride that is completely understandable. Since I am well out of range I am going to be the first to ask so I can start the qualifying process and put the dates on my calendar. I look forward to seeing more about this year's ride and seeing the date announcement. I'm sorry to ask so soon but I want to go next year.
