Attached are the tracks for our late August 2014 Newfoundland ride. The tracks on the western part of the island are solid -- either we ran them last year, or we had tracks from other riders who did in 2013. The eastern tracks are more speculative -- they look like they will go, but are not guaranteed to do so.

The track protocols, at least for Base Camp:

West-east (outbound) routes are shown in MAGENTA.

East-west (return) routes are shown in GREEN.

Alternate or optional routes are shown in RED.

Where tracks overlap, the overlapping areas have been included in the file that covers the area FIRST to save space.

Here's a pic from Ride Leader, Trail Tech's excellent and lightweight software. You don't get the color coded routes, but you'll likely get the idea:

Ride Leader is far easier to post a pic from.

    Comments and suggestions gratefully appreciated.

Is there a way to download that file from the site? I've registered but the download links don't seem to actually do anything.... Trying to figure out what days you'll be in the east end of the island.

I can't seem to download the .gpx from that site. Even logged in, nothing happens when I select the download.

Crappola on Trimble. The attachment link for Tracks is inoperative. For those as needs 'em, PM your email and I'll send them direct., unless I figure out a more elegant solution.

Yeah, that was a question. I was basing my GUESS on the bridge's location on several pictures of a bridge in that location from a bicycle ride report -- that picture, actually. There is a ford in the river about 2k upstream the "old crossing." If anyone has further info. . .

I put a flag at the best place I could see for a bridge -- narrow river, tall banks. I could be wrong. I was wrong once before.

If you are talking about what is locally known as "The Steel Bridge" that crosses the South West Gander River, it was still there summer of 2008. I have put out some feelers to determine if it is still there. It has a very distinctive look with a frame work of steel beams forming a cage like structure over the road bed part. It is easily visible on google earth. The link to google maps is below--the lat long is in the body of the link

    Does that help any?

It's not that bride, it's the one to the east. Follow the road frrom the one you posted and look where it crosses the next river. That's the one we're questioning.

Yep. From the info I have, the bridge shouldn't be to far off if it exists. Otherwise, we'll get wet feet at the old crossing.

I just got back from Newfoundland. I have been planning my trip for 2 years. I was going to be there from August 2-August 7 and travel the trailway from Port aux Basques to Argentia. We were on the trail for 2 hours, 18 miles and my father and law fell and broke his leg. I got back yesterday. When is your trip? Is there still room for one more? Will I be able to return by August 30th? I was there, it was awesome, for 18 out of 540 miles....

Sorry to hear about your dad but thankfully it wasn't more serious! Bones can heal!

We're all crossing on the 17th and have the return ferry booked for the 28th.

How do I get more information on your plans? Do you need anything from my planning? How do I convince my wife it is ok to go for a 10 day ride with a bunch of strangers?

Here's the main planning thread for the trip. Beware, it started last year so there are pockets of valuable trip info interspersed with prose, photos and general discussion.

As for the wife, you're on your own!

You will have a riot! I've met Canuman and can attest to his affability! I've also met up with and ridden with forum members I've never met before and it's always good!
