The Scrapheap Adventure ride travels to Nymboida in 2014!

The Scrapheap Adventure Ride is a call to all motorcycle collectors and madcap enthusiasts from around the country to join an extraordinary Aussie adventure and raise much needed funds for kids with Down Syndrome.

The challenge for hardcore scrappers is to buy a bike for no more than $1000 and fix it up for an adventure ride through the outback. All motorcyclists are welcome and the ride usually gets a great turnout of classic bikes and sidecar rigs as well.

Over the last four years, the ride has raised in excess of $220,000 for Down Syndrome NSW.

Check out our new web site and we are ready for registrations.

    www.scrapheapadventureride.com.au

This is the thread with all the details and a place to talk about your bike builds, and groups.

Adventure Moto are Supporting another 2 day ride to the event.

Hi Pezz, I know you get this question every year, so you'll be well versed in answering it for us! What's the go with registration and permits? How roadworthy do the bikes have to be (if at all)?

Might be tempted to have a crack this year, it always looks like a lot of fun!

It worked out around $35 to register the XR460/4 for 8 days

Team Inverell will be participating once again.
Members of Team Inverell that are also members of the Inverell Motorcycle Restorers Club utilise NSW Historic Registration where there bike meets the criteria for the registration.
The SAR has been in the past, and should be this year, an authorised club event.

    That's about $5 a metre travelled under it's own power isn't it?

    Hi Pezz

The ride this year looks great and I'm looking forward to it. I've signed up already. There looks like some excellent roads to be travelled between Sydney and Nymboida. Unfortunately the NX650 has been stolen so I have my eye on a KLR650.

    Cheers,
    Peter

Having just got a $1000 bike back on the road I've been looking for this.

Problem is the same weekend as the Far Cairn.

    Maybe next year.

Well Matt for that statement you have been fined a nice donation to the ride :evil

Let get some facts straight about the mighty XR460/4

Year 1 Wanaaring - engine locked up a few days before departure due to a missing dowel in the alternator cover

Year 2 Cameron Corner - Split plastic fuel tank :cry

Year 3 Kosciuszko - Made it all the 600k's there, surprising quite a few - Eh TB

Year 4 Back 'O' Bourke - Made it the 1000 odd ks there no problem at all. Actually it probably leaked 30% of it fuel but it is still running strong. :freaky

Its a suprisingly good and stable bike to ride on the rough terrain. Its now on display in the Inverell Motor Museum and a well deserved rest. :clap:clap:clap

As OldDog posted above I really wanted a practical 2 stroke for this years Scrapheap, and its well under way. I will be getting the swingarm back this week hopefully.

    Hi Perry,
I will try and make it this year, I have the $400 TT250 I got from Nev a couple of years ago and I use it as a Vinduro mount; that would be perfect for the ride.
The weekend you have proposed is after the Vinduro I run at Murphy's Creek and I have nothing in the Diary.
Where did you plan to hold it? At the Coaching Station?
