The final this year is on a sprint car track, 1/2 mile, I haven't seen flat trackers on it before, but I have seen a few speedway meetings on the 1/2 mile car track. It's manageable, it's a bit on the rough side, but lended itself to some great racing.

Final is at Perris Auto Speedway, night before the final there's a race at the so cal flat track association track also in Perris though opposite ends of "town". I had full plans of going to Perris both nights, but it seems I'll be back east, at barber for the vintage bike meet, and in North Carolina the weekend before for overland expo east.

:hmmmmm Pretty big thread for such an obscure niche sport.

Had the same thought , but have been such a fan for years it always seemed weird that not many folks follow our sport .

Its a little obscure for sure, but at one time was the main type of National Racing going on. Many remember those days still.

I like flat track racing and recorded this years x games. Great to see it being promoted but I give it an overall grade of a C. The track both last year and this year sucked. As soon as it was done I deleted it.

Did you catch the Lima Half Mile a few weeks back? It was livestreamed on Fanschoice.com. That race was epic...everything a proper flattrack race should be.

Probably nothing. Same as the purse for a MotoGP race. Zip. Zero. Zilch.

X Games has so much exposure that more money comes from sponsors than could ever come from a purse. I'm guessing the win and podium bonuses for the X Games were better than an AFT purse by far. Those bonuses come from the manufacturers, helmet and leather sponsors and energy drinks (the real money). Hopefully Halbert got some contingency $$'s from HD for the win.

I don't know for sure. Just guessing. I didn't see any reference to a purse in any of the social media posts or in the video of the X Games main event. Maybe I missed it? Did anyone read or hear about a purse for the X Games?

Many of us graybeards remember the Grand National days. And I for one think some form of unified #1 plate should be in play.....but I digress.

I was at a vintage race 2 weeks ago. I am used to the graybeard crowd. I was stunned by the number of young faces at the race. I get asked questions at work about what is happening in flat track.....that ain't happened in a REALLY long time. Maybe it is not as obscure as it has been for a long time.

BTW, who is going to be at Carrollton Wednesday for the Steve Nace event? Hoping to see a good night of racing.

Remember the Camel Pro challenge ?? and all the money Camel gave to the riders ... was watching a couple of races from the 80s the other night , Dave DeSpain announcing , the challenge alone paid $10,ooo. If I remember right Camel paid money to the top riders half way through the season.

At Peoria in 79 if you bought a pack of Camels you got a free t shirt. Fifty cents for a pack of cigs and you get a free shirt with Joe Camel on a flat tracker left foot down and sideways. Don't know where my brain was at that day but I didn't want to waste 50 cents for a pack of cigs I wouldn't smoke. I asked about buying a shirt and the lady running the stand gave me a Camel Pro Button for free, still have the button but Joe is leaned over on a road racer

Recorded the Charlotte flat track last night and watched it this morning. They had some good camera angles and it was nice seeing AFT actually on TV.

It was a spoiler since I already knew who won because I went to the race. It's a shame Dalton isn't back in the series he was amazing to watch race.

I'm thinking that perhaps if the Harley team had stuck with the XR they would have been kicking some Indian butt this season. If Halbert can do it certainly Coolbeth, Johnson & Robinson can.
