you would be better off buying a 2015 250. it would have better suspension and wheels. dont buy a eco. have you read the whole thread?

Well.... I really wanted the 250 Race but, supposedly they do not have any left in the US. SO, I put a deposit on the 250 Contact. I've ridden it. Great bike from what I can tell. I think it'll be a perfectly fine learning bike. They had a 280 Race in stock but you guys steered me away from that.

I hope the free internet advice works out! :lol3

Tires are the only limiting factor on the Contact, as you push your learning curve.

I am sure you will do fine on the Contact they are good bikes. And I will second the comment on better tires being your best upgrade to the contact.

I'll plan on changing the tires just as soon as my skill level exceeds the ability of the stockers! :lol3

I don't know how much riding you've done, but... Good tires make an immediate difference. So far I've only changed the front tire, to a Dunlop, on my 1997 Contact (a great beginners bike) but I could tell right away how much grippier it was than the old, hard, weather checked POS that was on it. My back tire is still an in-good-shape Michelin.

I have a 15 250 Race. I've also had a 280. I've been riding a long time and the 250 is plenty for every level of trials, unless your very heavy and at altitude. The 280 is snappier but IMHO not a huge difference. In my opinion the Race model will make a better competition bike than the Contact. If the new 280's have the two piece head, you could put in the lower compression head. This does take some of the zip away and you could run the slow turn throttle. I would think that would be enough to make if more like a 250. And those mods are easy to reverse if you decide you want more later.

I've spent the past fall, winter, and spring so far, riding in the lowest traction situations you can imagine. Watch one of those rainy, muddy UK trials vids and that's what we ride in Central NY. I thank God I'm riding on Michelin Trials Competition tires and not Pirelli MT43's! I'd sell that rear to an enduro rider and the front to a vintage guy, before you even start the bike!

This bike works great for me. As a beginner it does the trick and I love riding it. I doubt my skill level will overcome this bikes limits. If I'm that lucky I can always upgrade. But For now I will ride the piss out of it now and learn!!

We may buy a 2018 ES version for my wife. She absolutely cannot kickstart my 4T 300. She tried for 10 minutes last weekend and just gave up. I can't kick it for her right now. I have considered trading it for a 125 for her since I won't be riding anytime soon due to possibly facing a 3rd back surgery. But I love it and don't think I want to let it go just yet.

Look what the easter bunny left for me!

S3 FWW, 10 tooth CSS, and black throttle tube make her very mannerly!

Anyone know how you're supposed to ride one of these without a seat?! :scratch

The 280 is a monster. I love mine :) But there's no question I'm better on a 250, especially on the fourth loop.

It's pretty tame. I have literally 25-30 min experience on a trials bike so, my opinion is worth little but, it feels very similar to the 250 Contact as it is now. I did not ride it at all before it was modded... wasn't scared to, I just had Charlie give it some "manners" before I brought it home.

Now that I'm into the "darkside", I believe your username is MUCH more fitting for me! :photog
