Did you see the picture too?

Sill though, @wxwax hurt my feeling today, tell the class I am on ignore! In TB after a memorable post they say I'll be in my bunk.... Well I will be under my desk crying....

What I miss the most is his biased opinions of my unbiased posts.... He made me look better and smarter than I actually was! For those reasons and more, I miss him more than ever!

    Cheers wxwax! :beer

Everyone imagine the song, "why can't we be friends " playing in the background!

My last and final message to @wxwax !

Sir, I will be the bigger man and offer my apologies for whatever I did to upset you enough to put me on Ignore!

If you want a specific apology tell me what I did to upset you and I will apologize! The internet is supposed to be fun, this here is supposed to be fun and this lighthearted thread even more.... Bernie never took F1 too seriously, why should we!

If you chose to continue to ignore me, well then sir.... :finger

I have been involved with motor racing my entire life and even stayed in a few Holiday Inn Express but WTF kind of setup would you have to have to need a generator to check tire pressures?
This is a sincere question if anybody has the answer I'd like to hear it.

    I got an idea!

Mercedes gives McLaren Honda, F1 engines....

    In exchange for...

McLaren Honda gives Works Mercedes team, Honda generators....

Then everyone can have correct tire pressure and we can all be friends again!

    :rofl

maybe.... the generator handled the tire warmers and the tire temp changed / dropped so they got pressures wrong?
    dunno...

I doupt you will get a response, I have asked the question numerous times here, I have been told I need or have a tin foil hat....

I understand the generator to run the compressor to add air, if you want to streem line the opperation a pressurized tank..... But to reduce pressure, you need what, two, mabey three engineers and a pressure gauge.....

    Wtf......

That would make sense but the pressures were too high. If the tire temp dropped so would the pressures.

Yeahbutt, the generator was not working so tire pressure should have dropped as the tires cooled not increased.....

Passing along the tin foil hat, with even sized and placed ears......

That's what I said! Can't wait to se the responses!

Ps if you persue this they will tell you you need a tin foil hat.... I recommend Costco for quality and inexpensive tin foil! Just sayin......

They've probably got an automatic device where they dial in the required pressure on a keypad and it releases and adds air until it's right where they need it. Going around an F1 car with a simple tyre gauge, bleeding a bit of air and re-checking, the chances are high that you would undershoot by half a pound on a tyre or two and with no way to reinflate you could be worse off than when you started. They didn't say how far Bottas was over but for all we know half a pound over or under knocks off a couple of tenths a lap and that's plenty.

Plus IIRC in recent years they have all been trying to run right on the minimum allowed pressure.

Thinking aloud here: Mercedes knows that the pressure needs to be x at a certain temperature y in the blankets to achieve optimal pressure at operating temperature. The temp drops below that certain temperature because the genset fails and someone has to guess at what the pressure needs to be at the new temp - and gets it wrong enough to cause the pressure to be too high when racing....Of course with all the brains on the pitwall, you would think someone would have thought of that possibility in advance and created a lookup table.

I have read somewhere that the computers at red bull were more powerful and faster than NASA and the United States army's computers combined... Formula one apparently has the best computers in the world. I am guessing that the heat pointer to read temperature could have been pointed and a simple call on the radio and some guy could look it up on the super computers.... Or like you said, have it written on a npkin or the instruction manual of the generator...... :jack

An automatic device that runs on a generator an not a simple battery pack the size of a pack of smokes that can start a car and can be purchased at Costco beside the car batteries! This is why the sabotageing story makes so much sense..... :nod

Dude, I just noticed you are from upsidedown land, y'all have Costco there, mate! :dunno

Anyway, I want one of those devices to get the pressure right in my GS and the four wheeler, I am pretty anal about tire pressure and I have a working generator too! Anyone know if Mercedes sells these units... Or what they look like.... Just for kicks I will try and pop down to a Silver star stealership this afternoon see if they have one...

I will tell him Moronic on ADV sent me! :D

I still say why did they not use Lewis's generator compression tire thingy, or did Lewis just not want to share his? Or did they get Lewis's pressure correct from the pits?

    Bubble gum mystery! :lol3

From Bottas himself, as quoted in Autosport: "I don't know the exact amount but it was more than one PSI," said Bottas of the extent to which the tyre pressures were wrong for the start.

"Everyone is targeting to be on the Pirelli minimum and that is already too high.

"So everything more than that is worse and worse."

"The effect was basically just felt like a big overheating, it felt like on marbles the rear tyres.

"They were just not working like they are supposed to.

"They are overheating from the surface, from a smaller part of the tyre - you're balance limited and the traction is poor."

This is what I was thinking. A chip controlled compressor and regulator that sets the pressure to a desired spec plus or minus a tenth of a psi. Probably factors in tire temp. But then if the generator goes tango uniform you have nothing but a box with a hose on it. Am guessing that someone on the grid will be carrying a regular tire gauge as backup in the future.

Dude, this is the Petronas/M-B F1 team, an air bottle and a tire gauge just won't cut it. I'm sure they have some computerized ambient temp/ barometric pressure/relative humidity compensating air compressor thingy that cost at least $100,000.

Powered by a $150 Harbor Freight genset apparently.
