No, not a place to bring the wife & kids but for a guy traveling solo it works out pretty good since it's cheap and you get all your dirty laundry washed and all folded up for you by some cute girls :thumb

(that is a really good hot dog stand, though. Corner of Marquez de Leon and Colegio Militar :dg)

    Thanks, Scott! :shog

Matt thinks I'm "high maintenance" because I like to sleep in a tent :rolleyes
(as opposed to just throwing a sleeping bag on the ground)

I'll tell him what you said! :D

Have a great time when you bring your family down - make sure they get some of those yummy hot dogs!
    (and fish tacos in Miraflores)

Just got back, the dead cow is still there:

FYI, if you go through San Felipe again, you should stay at a place called "The Sweet Spot", the rooms are right on the Malecon and they're $50 a night, with secure bike parking.

Ha! That poor dead cow has seen his better days, not much left now.

The Sweetspot looks nice and secure bike parking is a must in SF. I'll check it out next time down, always looking for something new. If the "boom boom" is going all night, (not my thing) I'd rather be down at the El Cortez though.

It was nice and quiet, they close relatively early, plenty of time to get a good nights sleep. This is the house where he rents the rooms, he'll let you roll the bike thru both gates and into the hallway right outside your room. You'll have to get the bike up three steps, that's the only difficulty.

And it's right next door to the most amazing tacos I've ever had:

Oh and the dry lake bed wasn't so dry:

Mmmmm, tacos el pastor...the saliva is pooling up just looking at the photo. Too bad I can't smell them. That lakebed will become a gooey mess with a little H2o, good thing I have a double secret bypass trail that is all sand .

Hey, thanks MonMan, glad you enjoyed it. Have a good trip in Feb., nice month to ride in the desert.

We rode past Piedras Blancas a couple weeks ago in the pouring rain heading into Bay of LA from San Ignacio. What did you think of the place? Worth it as an overnight destination, or just a stop if you run out of time?

I'm planning on staying a night there in an upcoming ride so will know more after. The husband and wife (Hiram & Talpa) are super nice and hard working folks. They have built a nice place that is worth checking out and I would like to give them a little business that they very much need.
I would e-mail them at least a day beforehand so they can prep some good food, etc.

We nicknamed him Peso Mike, I think his name is Mike? He busted tires with Marilyn Monroe for James Dean, designed the monkey wrench:rofl and many, many other escapades. Nice to see him still alive. Great, no not great, Fabulous RR,:clapThanks, Joe

my brother and I are now in Guerrero negro. We have followed your route the entire time. We have had to make a few adjustments to our route due to the shorter days this time of year. Baja is something we have always wanted to do and thanks to you it has been the trip of a lifetime. Thanks so much for posting the gps files as our ride would have been nothing without them. This route is truly amazing, you have managed to put together every type of terrain and scenery possible. We are on drz 400s and would think it would be very difficult to tackle most of this route on any larger bikes. Sadly after 24 days we are heading north into the cold weather but we had a great time and can't wait to come back!

Hey Lenny, Brian & I & ?? will be riding down to San Juanico on the 27th for 9 or 10 days total. He has a place down there (I think it's a trailer with a deck or something). Looking at a couple of interesting deviations for the route.
Yah, for sure, for sure (valley speak) a spring ride to Mulege or Loreto or ???
Sounds like a hoot in La Paz. Give Kara a peck on the cheek (not that one!) for me.

We rode this section from San Ignacio to El Datil and out of the canyon over Gunsight Pass on 11/21/13. It looks like no one had ridden it since you were through there. We rode it in Feb 2012 and it was in pretty good shape. It is getting washed out from rain in sections, with tall grass, and probably going to be tough going after some more rain. I don't think anyone is maintaining it anymore.

Farkle, this is the best post a guy could get on his RR.:cry I am totally stoked that somebody followed the tracks and then posted it up. :clap

I hope you can put together a short RR of your own or post up some highlights on my RR.
Sounds like you guys had an awsome trip.
