Hmmm, well, based on the video evidence... still a n00b.

Thanks to Tom, Joel and everyone for an excellent time. Highlights for me:

    - Not having to trail-replace any bike parts this year
    - Seeing Zing ride down the Mengel boulder field on his GSA. Aric, you make one lousy n00b.
    - John/rruugger's dry sense of humor. Nice meeting you, and a whole bunch of other new people: Cathy, Eduardo, Bernie, Sito, Adam, Luke, etc, etc..
    - Seeing guys like Jeff and Diego riding the snot out of their bikes
    - Riding the Chloride City loop without having to pick up IBMike's 1150GSA :lol3 We had a good group this year, and no snow to keep us from the top.
    - The Sunday morning lightning, snow, rainbow and boulder show

Hope to see you all again soon.
    Dave

I can't wait to see more! As well as some helmet cam vids. This was a great group of guys to ride with. Those of us who rode out in 30 degrees rain, snow, rocks all over the road...RESPECT, guys :D Good shit!

Didn't have a camera this ride, so no pics.

I'm seeing WAY too many photos of bikes laying on their sides. I'm glad I decided to stick with the group that actually RODE their bikes :rayof

I had a great time, rode 850 miles total for the weekend. Weather was beautiful, except the snow on the way home. Holy CRAP was it cold. PunkEnduro was a champ, riding in jeans and a hoodie thru the frozen rain at 5K ft, I was warm and toasty compared to him.

Gary, thanks for taking us to the dunes, it was my first time riding the big sand hill things, and my first time seeing someone break their collarbone by running into a brick wall disguised as a bush (Hope you get better soon Jeff).

And Saturday night the best food in the ENTIRE valley was had at Gary and Rob's camp. Man that little Austrian fellow can cook, THANKS for the grub!!!

Well, it's time to start working on getting permission for the next one.

    Later,

    Gabe

    Part Three...
Since we n00bs like it easy with no suprises. Dave(sorry; don't know his handle) Lead us down the safe and beautiful.
We head out of Stovepipe towards the famous charcoal kilns. This is the really clean road called Wildrose Canyon Road.

    Fearless leader running n00b watch..

"Say;; Does this bike make my butt look big?"

The last three miles was dirt so at least I got the tiger dirty on the first day of DV Adventures.

    We are at the Kilns....
In 1877 George HearstÂ’s Modock Consolidated Mining Company completed construction of the charcoal kilns in Wildrose Canyon. The charcoal produced by the kilns was to be used as fuel for two silver-lead smelters that Hearst had built in the Argus Range 25 miles to the west. The kilns operated until the summer of 1878 when the Argus mines, due to deteriorating ore quality, closed and the furnaces shut down.
    You can google the rest.

We climbed up to Mahogany FLats Campground which is only 8000 feet just above the Kilns. if you want to escape the heat, then this is the place to be.

With the tourist attractions out of the way, its time to hit the real stuff. We head on over to Skidoo ghost town for a look around.

The Skidoo Mining District was one of the last gold mining efforts in Death Valley. Gold deposits were discovered in 1906. The town of 23 Skidoo grew to almost 500 people by the following year.
    Google more here too.

    Well;
Thats it for the first days activities.. My Tiger had 20K miles on it since 1999 and never seen a dirt road up close and personal. Then I rescued :ricky it from it's previous owner and........

Today it lost it's cherry.. :shog

Tune in next time for day two.

    Goodnight
