I have heard a '03 640 Adventure seat will bolt right on my '01, and be an improvement over the '01 for long rides. Can anyone else confirm this ?

No first hand experience (I only have an '01), but there should be no reason why the two would not be interchangeable - same plastics and such to mate up to.

However, I cannot imagine it being enough of an upgrade in comfort to justify the purchase as opposed to an aftermarket seat.

My ass hurts just thinking about having to ride on a factory KTM Adventure saddle :lol3

James, I think you underestimate the improvement. I have it measured at exactly 11.265%.... :lol3

Aftermarket is around $400. USD. An '03 can be bought new for $100.. For a 10 to 11.265% bennifit I'm not sure it's worth it. But any more and it might be. How long can you ride your '03's on the road before you need to stop and rub your ass ?

I hear there is a fella 'round these parts named Bojangles that does an awfully respectable job on these seats... Hiya James :wave

I also hear that non-suede models can be had for a sight less than $400 :nod :thumb

As for ass rubbin', I guess that is predicated by your ass... I have a rather delicate tushie and was uncomfortable in less than 15 minutes when riding an '03.

See my Mista 'Jangles seat here http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=57003 Lots of others in ADVrider as well if ya search for 'em :nod

Yes, it bolts right up and is nicer than the original. Don't have any pics looking straight down at it, but will click off some when I get the chance. In the meantime, just be aware that it's a tad wider, not much difference visually (other than the color), but it does end up being more supportive and worth the low price they get for 'em.

If your long of leg and/or you tend to sit back on the seat the 03 might be considered a mild improvement, otherwise you won't notice much of a difference.

Thanks, looks like it'll be worth it. I've got a trip coming up in March but since one of my brothers drives a Tiger it will never be too long between fuel stops...., the '03 seat should make it bearable for the more or less 150 mile jaunts.

Do yourself a favor and skip the '03 Adventure seat, which is correctly estimated at about a 10 to 12% improvement. Get a Bill Mayer Saddle and you'll never have to think about this issue again. I started a thread on it with pics a few months back....

The 640 model (heck the 950 too) on their site looks nice - but they don't have a bigger shot of it. What's he get for that work?

Call Rocky up...it depends a bit on materials. If I recall correctly (and I might not), the cover (leather or synthetic) makes about a 100.00 difference. So it ranges from around 260.00 to "as fancy as you want."
I bought the basic version, and it was really the best money I ever spent on my 02 Adventure. (I do a fair amount of street riding with my bike.)
Note that I had tried the 03 Adventure seat upgrade. Save your money and don't bother with it. It's better, but not worth the difference IMHO.
Lots of folks here like the James seat too, but I don't have any personal experience with that one.
I'll email you pics if you wish, just pm me with your address.
