I hope that it all goes smoothly for you. Looking forward to the RR. :D Seen your intentions over in the planning threads for some of the other guys.

It would be good if you could do a planning thread as well, from an NZ perspective (need to steal ideas & confront issues for a later trip myself). :deal

Good on ya fellas for getting across the pond for a bit of mid winter adventures.
Just a quick heads up...I grew up in North Florida and as you are likely aware it will be hot when you get there. Try this on for size... your average daily temps will be 35C with 85-90% humidity. This puts your heat index around 40+
In fact the first half of the TAT will be like this so pack loads of ice water in your camelbacks every morning.
I spoke with mates in Crested Butte, Colorado yesterday (elev. 2600m) and the summer temps have finally kicked into gear up there as well.
I have ridden much of the Colorado section of the trail while lived there ten years ago and can report with absolute confidence you will be in alpine adv heaven there.

I too have talked with local friends about putting together a TAT tour at some point but all my looser friends never commit. I would attempt a solo crossing only I have trouble convincing my wife that this is possible. Besides, there is strength in numbers and I am a very social rider I would want to share that experience with some good mates.

All the best and I'll be keen to follow the RR. :1drink

The old bike is still going strong , Andi and Ellen came down a few weekends back and we took the bikes around the back of the Takitimus , Andi was impressed how well it still goes , Whos going with u ??? R they Gruvers , send me yr address and i will send u stickers . My advice on riding the right side is let some 1 else go 1st for the first week . Colorado and Utah were my off road favorites , Stay a week in Ouray and ride the Imogene , Cinnamon, Engineer, California and Black Beer Passes . The guys in the camp ground with dirt bikes said dont take the DR on the Black Beer but I just had to do it . Dumped it twice on the steps , would gear it down and do it with better rubber next time . Moab in Utah was another fav of mine , ride the Schafer Trail, Pucker Pass and the White Rim Trail , Im off to the Philippines for some more ADV riding of sorts in Aug - Sept.

All the best for your Trip Boys - it'll be a blast!

We are doing the road version for 6 weeks kicking off in July.

If you see an ST1300 and GL1800 with "Kiwi's on Tour" stickers on the back, stop us for a beer.

Keep yr options open as to shipping the bike home , the more u see there the more you want to go back again, Dust to Dawson is the Holy Grail for ADV riders and the riding in the land of the midnight sun is awesome . There is plenty of ADV riders who will store your bike for u . Cheers Toddy
