THIS WILL BE OUR LIVE UPDATE AS WE TRAVEL.

Sorry to disappoint but it will be a Parallel, a V, and an Opposed Twin! Still should be a great time
Mine is the Parallel Twin - a 2014 Yamaha Super Tenere (don't worry I'll have a different ground cloth on the trip - and unfortunately no dog.)

Here is our planning thread link in case you are interested in that - http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/3-twins-head-to-deadhorse-june-2017.1211516/

Please follow along with us and give us any route advice, pertinent weather or road updates, lodging suggestions or any help or advice you think we need.

Josh will be on KTM 950SE - yes he is going to ride over 14,000 miles on an SE!!

Mark will be on a 2004 BMW GS Adventure - and yes he has put over 113,000 miles on it!

We also have a Triple joining us for the 1st quarter of the trip. - Kenny will ride with us out to the California coast on a Triumph Explorer 1200.

Over the past couple of days Mark, Josh, and I have been reflecting back to our trip to Laguna Seca in 2005 when we witnessed Nicky Hayden winning the GP. The passing of Nicky has deeply affected all 3 of us and he will be in our thoughts this entire trip. I am sure we will spend many nights at campgrounds recalling the many times we saw him live at AMA events, MotoGP events, and all the times we watched and cheered at the TV while he campaigned in Europe. Godspeed Nicky.

I'm in! Stop at the Black Lightning Motorcycle Cafe when you pass through Eureka, Ca. Good eats, and they love it when people stop by to chat on long-distance rides.

In Fairbanks- Gambardella's for Italian fare; Lemongrass Thai for, well, Thai food.
Please stop to pee on the roadway at 63.051339, -147.381219...see 'Hans & Franz Pump Up Alaska' for details.
Hinton/Entrance- the Hinton/Jasper KOA is quite nice.
The Flats RV Park in Canal Flats/Canal Junction BC is Project Mayhem approved.
Beware the tar snakes on Chief Joseph.
If you have time, the Purple Pie Place is a tasty stop. http://www.purplepieplace.com/
    Pie for strength!!
Have a great time, be safe & ride well!

Here are odometer shots as the bikes sit tonight all prepped and ready to go. All 3 have brand new tires - Josh (KTM 950SE) and I (Super Tenere) are running Mitas Dakar E07 - Mark (GS) is running Heidenau K60s. All 3 bikes are pretty loaded - Josh maybe not as much - so we will have good reports on tire life.

    This is getting serious!!

In ascending order - we have...

I'm in! Looks like a great agenda....But, be prepared for cold weather, rain, and snow. Last year I rode my 2015 R1200GSA from Key West to Deadhorse on an Iron Butt ride, and then visited 50 National Parks on the way home to complete the Iron Butt National Parks (Gold) ride which includes the 4 USA corners plus Alaska. You'll already be up there to get Alaska. Giv'er! Lots of great parks along your route, and Canadian parks count too.

Last summer the last 36 miles into Deadhorse was being reconstructed, or realigned, or whatever. Hopefully that has been completed and you will have no problems.

From Fairbanks I overnighted at Wiseman, then Deadhorse, and then Wiseman again on the way south. If you are in great shape are have a following sea you might go from Wiseman (or Coldfoot) up and back in one day, avoiding the extra night on the road. The weather will probably dictate your choice.

I like your route. I know a lot of the spots on the trip but have often wondered how to string them together. I think you just did that for me! I may just plagiarize this ride one day!

We used to stop at Pink Mountain for lunch all the time. At the time it was a welcome respite and great chili. I'm not sure where it lands on the scale these days. I haven't been there in "cough" a long time.
