At my age I will be looking for the mature rider group. Difficult to ride with bifocals, 50% hearing, and old bones. Looking forward to the rally and meeting new friends. Dragging in with the toy hauler

Hey! I know those guys! Watch out for the hoodlum in the referee shirt. Thats a shame about Dickies BBQ.

I finished the refurb on the 950ADV. I'm losing sleep already knowing I cant attend this years rally. I'll do some wheelies in front of my house on Pahrump weekend.

    Joel,

What kind of bikes? Are they looking to ride easy dirt close to Pahrump or willing to ride some or lots of pavement to see sites in Death Valley?

    joe, here's the email i received...joel

    Hello,

I am a new Adv Bike rider, formerly street and dirt. I saw the Nov Pahrump meetup and it sounds great, only bad thing is the wife and I will be there for 2 weeks prior to the meetup and must be back home and at work when you will just be starting all the fun.

I am curious, what would be a good resource to find some riding areas we can explore when we are in the area? I have both a DRZ400 and V Strom 1000. My wife has a Dual Sport/Trial bike, the Yamaha Xt250 (2016 model).

If you can give me any suggestions or point me in the general direction of where/how we might find some areas to explore it would be greatly appreciated. If you offer some GPS tracks, or even would know of someone that would lead us on a ride or two we would be interested in how that might work, like hiring a guide or ???

    Thanks

    Joel,

At this point I'm going to assume they're going to be staying in DV (probably Furnace Creek) and not Pahrump. They also have very appropriate dual sport bikes.

I'd suggest they get a copy of the Tom Harrison Death Valley map (link).

Then download the Death Valley Backcountry Roads file (link). <<< corrected link to better file. On that list of roads, I'd say anything that doesn't mention 4WD should be mild enough for newer folks. Of course, high on the list of must do rides is Titus Canyon. If they were planning on staying at Panamint Springs, that list isn't as helpful.

Because you are limited to staying on the existing roads in DVNP, having tracks to follow isn't crucial, as you can usually accurately place yourself on the map by the shape of the track you just left.

Hand is feeling good. I had an adjustment made to the tendon for my middle finger. Not quite 100% strength wise but good enough to ride. I'll be riding about 100 miles of pavement tomorrow as a test. It'll be good to get some light dirt riding in when your ready. I'll be off until the 9th then just weekends or a weekday here or there with enough warning. I might try an early weekday ride pending tomorrow's results.

Talked my son into joining me, now I'm trying to get his friend and dad on board too. And Calisurfbum may join us too. So should be 2-5 of us camping with bike trailers. Should know for sure by the end of the weekend, Joel. Some of us gotta work for a living so we'll be in Friday nt. riding Sat and Sun.

Hey Joel, finally got the time off from work, I'm all in. Just signed up and paid for truck and small trailer.

Trucking in with Bill and maybe Mike. In for the t-shirt (L) and the tumbler.

Looking forward to expanding my tequila club list at Romero's. Only 97 more to try and I get my name on that damn plaque... :beer

Are you riding down Death Valley Rd to get to Pahrump? From Big Pine / 168.

I'm sure they have repaired Scotty's Castle Rd to get contractors in for the repairs but it is not open to the public yet. This is the portion right out in front of the castle and the canyon leading up to Nevada. Too many looky loos
