Looks like my starter relay took a dump, looking to replace it with a bosch generic relay 12v 20amp

Based on this site http://bmwmotorcycletech.info/slash5cricket.htm

Not sure on the re wire the numbers on the replacement relay are different from the web article, I have 85, 86, 87, 87a, 87, 30?

Anybody have any experience doing one of these swaps?

A generic will not have the circuit that keeps you from hitting the starter while the motor is running. It's explained in that snowbum article you linked.

I run this Bosch relay (0 332 019 150) on all my /5's. They're so cheap, and small, I install two for a belts and suspenders approach.

It will bypass the starter protection... as mentioned by DiabloADV.

If your harness is stock… wiring should be as such:

85 - Brown
86 - Green
87 - Double Red
87 - Red
30 - Black

You'll also need to add a jumper wire to connect the blue connectors.

Sweet it works, Thanks :freaky

125$ for a relay is about as crazy as 500$ for 70's ducati turn signals

Also, I'm not running turn signals, so there should be less of a chance of hitting the starter when the engine is running.

OP - just be careful with these bosch starter relays. As many have said, it bypasses the circuit that prevents the starter from being activated when the bike is running - that was by design by Bosch and implemented by ze Germans for good reason. If you are 100% certain you would never push the starter button while the bike is running, even on accident (which I find unlikely), you are better off doing the mod snowbum suggests (my brother and I did it, works great), or putting in a used starter relay from the flea market.

Those blue wires at the starter relay are the charging light and diode board circuit, not turn signals. That's how the relay "knows" the motor is running.

You definitely need to jumper those or the bike won't charge. A jumper is built into the /6 relay to do just that.

+1 at the above, mine were disconnected at the relay and it didn't charge. It seems there is some confusion on the purpose of these wires as I was initially also informed that they were turn signal wires.
