Well a big thank you to the crew at trump-county sportsmen for getting me out of the woods and loaded into the bus. No idea what happened, if I hit something, hi sided, front washed out etc. was at the end of Saturday's 90 mile trail ride and was tired. Having leg cramps, I was drinking, almost out of my second fill of my hydro back. Last I remember I was 2 miles from the end, then being checked by 3-4 people ifim ok. Could not move my right side. I thought I broke ribs bad. Felt like back was screwed up, and as soon as they tried to get me upright my legs went into bad cramps/spasms. Both front and back of thighs. Both legs. They got me on a board and got me the 25 feet to the road. A 4-5 hour visit in ER with morphine and released. No broken bones, deep bone bruises and damage to scapula and possibly a concussion. Got dinner, thanks to my camping buddies, got some rest and in the morning packed up slowly and drove 3.5 hrs home. Got a nice hot shower and realized I had several bruises on my head the shape of the helmet. The cf helmet also has some cracks. So it did its job! Thanks Kali!! And leatt without those I'm sure it be worse. Have to get all new gear. A lot was cut off. My riding buddies are great as always. Been riding with one for 38 years now at least? We always have each other's back. Started at 9? I think.
But dr said to ween myself off the meds and by the 28th I should be good to drive a truck and work again. Here is hoping. I did find out.. 50 yards from the end.

Sounds like it could have been a heat stroke.

Start taking stool softeners now. The pain meds will make your bowels stop working. The hospital didn't bother to tell me that when they released me.

Thanks, and yes, they help, or should I say I have issues. But down to. 1/2 my pain meds now. Going in the right direction.

Ya I had a decent get off 2 years ago and they put my on morphine for a few days without mentioning anything about constipation. I never had morphine before so I didn't know. The cramping was worse pain then the accident. Absolutely terrible. Not sure why they don't give you stool softners at the same time as narcotics.

This is spot on true. I had terrible problems with constipation after being on pain meds for over a month. The first real 'break through' on the toilet was nearly enough to make me faint.

Gawd, are we getting old or what? All this talk of stool softeners... :lol3 I'm sensitive to the issue because I just "celebrated" my 59th :patch. Yeah, last time I tore up my shoulder I had the same issue with pain killers - it was an added incentive to get the hell off them.

Anyway, sorry about your crash, happy it wasn't worse, cheers to your riding buddies :freaky, and don't forget - your insurance just might help with the cost of replacing some of your gear since it was torn up by the crash and then cut off by the ER folks. It's worth asking, most policies do offer some coverage for gear/equipment.

    How did the bike fare?

Sounds like it could have been a heat stroke.

Maybe, but it was November in PA, right? I sometimes get those cramps and issues when bicycling long distances (even in cooler weather) or skiing hard all day. I think it's more related to loss of electrolytes and/or vitamin deficiency than a hydration or overheating issue. I like to use the sports gel or chews along with Gatorade or such for really intense workouts and it seems to help. Taking a good multi-vitamin can help too. Just plain water works for normal or short duration workouts but for those longer and more intense efforts I think our bodies need a little extra help.

Good luck with your recovery, and good luck with getting help replacing your gear.
