We can only hope:
Yes, "Hope" is the word:
Isn't the world supposed to end then
Oops Maurizio beat me to it!
A coupla' weeks ago, I was on a thread pertaining to the 690RR. A gentleman, who goes by "DigiMan", added the below post to the thread. He seems to be very knowledgable about KTM's, and motorcycles in general.
It was the part of his post, that I highlighted in red, that really caught my eye.
With all the talk and speculation that is always being thrown-out in this forum, regarding the possibility of a 690 Adventure, I thought that more would try to visit the web address (like I did), and the thread would blow-up. However, the thread died, leading me to believe that not many people saw his post.
When I tried it, the web address did indeed take me to the KTM website. Here is "DigiMan" 's post...
Nothing new in that post, KTM registered all those addresses many years ago (even before the huge 690 Adv/Rally/etc thread started).
And none of the parts he mentions from KTM Team West are their own, they are made by manufacturers well known on this forum for a long time (Safari tank, Alberto fairing, etc).
I knew about the "KTM Team West" stuff (I only included it because I wanted to quote his entire post.). I have tried to keep-up with the KTM T.W. stuff, and the offering(s) from Rally Management Services. The R.M.S. 690R "Adventure" stuff seems pretty trick to me. Then again, I've never raced a rally in my life...So, what do I know?
I knew there had to be a reason why it appeared that I was the only person who alerted to the "700ADVENTURE.COM" thing. And, I was hoping you would chime-in on this thread...I knew you would know.
There's another thread started in the Aussie forum, where some local KTM rep has said it seems to be coming - eventually.
There were a couple of other hopeful threads too that turned out to be furphies, but threats of slow death stopped that malarkey in its tracks.
I'm pretty happy with my enduro, but I suppose that a true 690 engine and a six speed gearbox might temp me.....in 2012!
I'd be interested in the 690 Enduro Traveler with a tank like this
I suppose it would be consistent with KTM's super moto line-up:
690 Enduro R
690 Enduro T...or 690 ET......ET...Unicorn...take your pick!
If they make a true 690 adventure you can sign me up!
why does that look so much like the baja 690??
Because it is. Ludo owned it for a short while.
A German company was/is working on getting the tank molds from KTM, but it might have been cost prohibitive.
Any updates on this thread? I would just want a 690R with one gallon more and not have to put up with a bulky add-on side tank or ridiculous price.
you could always buy a 690R and replace the airbox with the underseat fuel tank. Voila problem solved. I however am planning on changing my intake so that my airbox becomes a tool and spares storage area for rallying.
ktm has changed the ktm 700 adventure site... OOOHH hope it has a carb
Would love to see that. How much and how many gallons extra? And does it affect the performance, changing the airfilter?
A 690 adv in 2012??? I should be ready for a trade up by say 2013, so that means a year to sort out the dreaded 1st release bugs before its time for a new bike! At least Ive got 2 years of action on 690E to look forward to.
Why wait till 2012 or 2013 for a 690 Adv when you can build one now ? There are at least three options to build an "adventure" version of the 690E/R:
(1) Rally-Raid Products in the UK - www.rally-raidproducts.co.uk
(2) Alberto Dottori in Italy - www.albertodottori.net
(3) Mecasystem in France - www.mecasystem.fr/ca/72/kits-rallye/ktm-690-enduro-r-09-10/
Neither are exactly cheap, but you get a bike with 20+ liters of fuel and a decent fairing. If you just need a bigger tank, Safari have a 14 liter front tank.
I just ordered the tanks from Rally-Raid products. They are 9 liters (in addition to the 12 liters of the stock tank), just what I need for a trip to Morocco. Plus they are fairly unobtrusive and leightweight.
I think this is the way to go for the real world and rally. I have seen alot of busted saddle tanks. The saddles do get the CG down low but it comes at a price. Just ask some of those 950 guys. This tank is well above "most" hazards. It didnt seem to slow that BMW at Dakar this year. That thing was sweeet! I like my 640ADV tank. I guess you would call it a high saddle. But lowsides do take its toll on them
Spoke with my local KTM dealer today, and he's salivating over a possible 690 Adventure, too. He said the local rep led him to believe the Adventure would come to the US before the end of 2011. It's the same nebulous talk we always hear, but at least it came from a dealer I trust.
