Hey Guys, I've now decided to buy a 690 Enduro R, duals sport bike. What I really liked on my 1190 R was the soft bags that hung either side of the bike... like these: I found these to be excellent for 2 very good reasons: 1 - they were always fitted so I was never caught short 2 - they made EXCELLENT slow drop protection, acting as cushions! Problem is though that the exhaust eventually burns through the material. Has anyone seen exhaust protection that runs all the way up the slip-on and not just at the start of it? Or, if I got a Carbon exhaust, would that be less "hot"? Again, for a 690 Enduro R. Thanks guys!!
I can touch my wings exhaust and doubt it would melt anything. My giant loop Great Basin bag came with a heat shield but I haven't used it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Not sure how you've been able to do that! Is it connected to the down pipe????!!! If it is, take your gloves off next time.... I've never been able to touch any exhaust on any bike after a good ride out. Anyway, I found a kit made by Rally Raid To push soft luggage away from the sides.
hahaha - yeah, I'm just used to coming straight here from my 1190 R days, didn't realize there was a "Thumpers" section. Anyway, as I said, I have the answer now. :)
Take a look at the 690 thread index for lots of useful knowledge including luggage, racks, exhaust etc.
Buy some of that self adhesive stuff they stick to the inside of plastic fenders to keep them from melting and stick it on the back of the bag. Also ditch the stock exhaust unless you just need to be super quiet. The catalytic converter is made specifically to retain heat, they need it to operate. Bad for everything except the environment.
