Any idea when we'll get more details on the itinerary? I see the first two days on the web site.

Could some give details on registering for two guest? Would that be the chimpanzee option? We will be showing up in a motor home, already made reservations at Zion Ponderosa. Thank you, looking forward to riding with the west coasters.

And getting into more logistics, what tank should I run for the little bike? Do I need the Exxon Valdez tank and range, or can I get by with the medium sized tank? The medium tank gets me 125 miles or so...

I'll be running the 125 mile tank. Maybe have a pint size can of extra in the backpack.

I wore out my tkc80 front on the co/ut bdrs last month. I'm going to be in green river from tomorrow to the 5th, is there somewhere between green river and Zion that I can get new rubber or are there services at the rally?

If you want to buy them and have them shipped to my house, I can transport for you and bring the big tire irons to make mounting easier.

Does anyone know the electricity situation? I'm concerned about charging devices (helmet radio, gps) overnight.

    Helmet radio? :D
No facilities out in the rally tent camping area - you would have to charge off your bike or walk down to the main lodge.
You're welcome to use my charge-brick - good for a few devices and I won't need it otherwise - I carry it for emergency starts.
I'm not sure if we're going to try for a cabin or tent it out with the rest of the inmates. In any case, if you hafta have power you'll be able to one way or another.
Jesse (geomoto) will be at party-central and will surely be able to point you to a power source.

There is a new shower facility this year near "tent city". I just called to confirm it is finished and available for power/charging. In the lodge power is available while you have meals also.

I'm bringing a GZ Yeti 400 and a 100W solar panel. Goofy looking yellow Jeep and blue tent on top, so hard to miss...

    Ride Planning...

I have not seen what Jesse has cooked up for group rides yet - last year we drove the cars to Toroweep and met the group on bikes on their way back. I've been there several times and don't need to see it again. However, there's another point on the North Rim that is worth visiting called Indian Hollow Campground. It is way off the beaten path - even the jeep-road center strip going in has foot-high grass growing from lack of traffic. There are 3 campsites at this campground.

The highlight is that at the end of the road there is a hiking trail that leads to the edge of the canyon rim in about a quarter mile. Views are spectacular as is the ride there.

So, likely on Saturday I'm going to try to snag my riding buddy Spafxer and ride down there - I'm on a GS and he's on a KTM950A, both on dualsport tires so this will be a liesurely ride through the forest.

Return route likely through Jacobs lake - the access roads going over to hwy 89/67 are in the Kaibab Plateau Forest and are spectacular as well. So depending on timing and distance we can do some other exploring as well. Fuel up in Jacobs lake - so a 150 mile range should be plenty good. We are both good for about 200 miles and change.

I will also check my tracks for getting to SUBLIME POINT - another overlook on the north rim. I can't recall how easy it is go get there nor how far from Indian Hollow, but if we can take that in as well we'll do it. Awesome place for sure.

Anyone wanting to join us post up or track us down at the rally. If it coincides with another group ride let's adjoin them, and/or we're open to other suggestions.

The views at the end of 'Thunder River' trail. Actually the trail goes over the rim, down into the canyon, and all the way to the Colorado. But it's a 15 mile hike to the river and 3300' drop. We stop at the top and take pictures. :D

Hmmm...photobucket is down so I'll edit later and post a few pics. Awesome place to visit and relatively easy to get there. Once you leave Kanab it's mostly dirt all the way, but groomed smooth fireroads.

    Ah...PB POS working again...

Browneyes, two Canucks on Tenere's are interested. We are willing to follow where others lead. Pure tourists.

Just mounted the 1 Gal Rotopax to my PM Racks rear rack on the DRZ to extend my range. Getting excited about the trip. Hauling the DRZ on the back of my Jeep over the Rockies.

Jesse -- Any updates on the GPS tracks?

I got the tent put on the Jeep and started setting junk out. Next up is to mount the big tank on the 450 and start loading up.

What time is everyone planning on arriving on Thursday?

I'll be getting there around 3-4 as I'll be dropping off one of the kids at school and heading out from there. I've not had time to mount the big nasty light on the 450, but I'll bring the gnarly helmet light in lieu of it.

So I dunno, is there anything close to camp?
