Wondering if anyone has installed or thinking about installing modulating brake or running tail lights?

I friend of mine had them on his vstrom and you couldn't help but notice him!

http://www.hyperlites.com/unikits.html#about work on the vstrom but might not look great on the 800. Any other sources?

    Thanks, swolf

I'm installing the 16 LED dual function Hyper-Lites on mine. These are the same ones I had on my R1150RT. Ron at Hyper-Lites and I had a pretty good discussion on how to do the install. If you are purchasing new, you will not have any problems.

Upgrading from an older design, give Ron a call to discuss what is needed.

Are these "Hyper-Lites" different from the LED tail lights on the new F650/F800?????

The Hyper-Lites I am using are two additional modules of 16 LED's each that are mounted on either side of my license plate. The dual function enables a red running lite with bright flashing LED's when stopping. The ones below do not show the dual function (running lights) and are only 8 LED's per module.

CrazyMike, will you share some of the instal info? I'd love to put them on put don't see any great spot to stick them. It would be a bonus to show a few images if possible.

    Thanks, swolf

I can send you the F800 installation instructions (it has pics, too) Ron sent me after we discussed the installation, just PM me your email address and I'll send you the pdf document. If you don't have a F800, YMMV.

There are a couple of options regarding mounting:
    1. Use supplied double-sided tape to stick flashing brake modules to the rear tail light or reflectors on either side of the license plate
    2. purchase the license plate bracket when you purchase the HyperLites.
I went with option 2 because it was the easiest method to go from bike to bike as I knew I would eventually be selling my RT.

I must admitt to being Very surprised by this topic, because I am really positively impressed by the LED tail light on my F650GS. It is the Best factory tail light I have seen, so I am really surprised that we are discussing modifiying it.

I guess everything can be improved... BUT :freaky

I think I'll spend my limited resources improving other things about the bike for the time being. :evil

The thing about the Hyperlights is that they flash when you apply the brakes. They're not a steady light like the brake lights are, and unlike brake lights, are almost impossible to miss. If you ever get behind a bike with them, they really get your attention. Even a cell-phone wielding, make-up applying, day-dreaming nimrod will notice you. Cheap insurance, if you ask me. :thumb

FLASHING BRAKE HYPER-LITES GET NOTICED :freaky & I am quite sure have saved numerous users from getting rear ended from the dim rods mentioned above!!

I installed them on my bike before even leaving the dealership.

    +1 on this.

Spoke with the guys who sold me my 800GS and he said "I have heard the Hyperlites give a constant "Brake Failure" warning on the Canbus BMW bikes. We'll need to find out if this is still the case. If it is, you will never know if your ABS is working or not."

    Thoughts?

Yeah. Don't link it to the CANBUS like the previous models.

HyperLites have a specific method of tapping into the CanBus system so you don't get that error. Basically, you draw power from an accessory circuit that does not affect the brake circuit. The sensing wire can still connect to the brake circuit as the current draw is transparent to the CanBus. That way, you will not get the error.

Glad to hear it! :clap I talked to the local dealer about this just a few weeks ago and the lead tech said that he didn't think they would work with the electrical system.
