I'm looking for an inexpensive, serviceable on/off road bike & am considering an 85' XR350 I've spotted for reasonable $'s. It'll need lights/turn signals but otherwise in good shape.

I've been a road rider only for many years & really don't know what the alternatives are.

    Is this a good choice?

Possibly, some parts may be hard to attain. I think those bikes have dual carbs which has been said to be a pain. Otherwise, those XRs were nice and would be up to the task.

If it's a single carb then it must be a '85? I think that year they went to single carb and dry sump on the 350s... probably the best year for them and also the last. The only thing I don't like about them is that engine parts might be hard to come by.

Reviving an old thread here.........I have the opportunity to purchase a 1985 (single carb) along with a second "parts bike" for $1100 asking price. The bike appears to be in decent shape and the second bike supposedly needs some head work to be a runner again. Does this sound like a reasonable deal?

old bikes are worth what you are willing to pay for them and put into them. not what anyone else thinks. it looks like a clean bike that has had some work done to freshen it up. you should be ok at that price getting them both.
