    Just found this randomly. Price is cheap. $800.

    Says it needs a little tlc and kick start only.

    Are these hard to get parts for and restore? This seems like the perfect bike to start the kids riding....

    Most factory parts still available; was last marketed in US with 2005 models; shares components with Mojave ATVs, vehicle with their own cult following. (No, no known successful transplant of Mojave electric starter to KLR250 ever performed; operation remains in the "too hard" category!)

    KLR250 in my experience has proven versatile and reliable; hardly changed for its entire production life. If you can live with kick start only and drum rear brake, the little KLR exists as a capable dual-sport in its class and vintage, IMHO.

    The only thing that would give me pause is the valve adjustment. If it was done per schedule great. If not, maybe it's fine. Maybe not. Pay as little as possible and you won't be disappointed.

    They're fairly straight forward (for a water cooled) to work on, plus Kawasaki still makes parts, Parts show up on eBay which you may end up turning to at some point. I'm on my second basket case, and provided they're priced appropriate to the amount of work required they can be fun. Just keep in mind that they're the prime of mid 80s tech, so don't expect too much.

    Price wise, really depends on the TLC. Due to the age, biggest question mark would be the rear shock. Otherwise plan on replacing coolant, brake fluid, pads, fork oil and seals, oil. Have at thee!
