The trees don't have any leaves at low elevations either. You can always camp in the forest areas. There are a number of moto friendly private camp grounds to choose from. Most open in mid March. Then you could do the Blue Ridge Motorcycle CG near Cruso: http://www.blueridgemotorcyclecamp.com/ Keep on going to the Cherohala and stay at Hunts http://www.huntslodge.com/ or The Cherohala Resort thats open year round: http://www.cycleresort.com/ Coming from Alabama, I usually run up to the Cherohala and camp in the forest for free, then do the Robbinsville area and stop around Cruso, NC. Then its more BRP riding till tire out.. then repeat. I primitive camp mostly till I'm ready for a hot shower and then I stop at a full service CG.
