950 Adventure stalling at idle.

    I bought the bike about 3 months ago from the original owner. Don't know of any jetting mods. Had canisterectomy and has Leo Vince pipes.

    The bike will just intermittently stall at idle as if I turn the key off. Starts right back up and runs fine but if I let it idle long enough it will do it again. If I ride real easy I can get just about 30 mpg from fill up until the light come on. Went on a ride up to Big Bear this past Sunday and at higher elevation it would stall all the time at idle. Also starts right up every morning cold without using the choke.
    Only thing I have tried was syncing the carbs.

    Any suggestions please.

    Also the bike is a 2006. Purchased with 17k miles and has about 22k miles now.

    You need to know what settings you have on the carbs. What jets, what float height, what IMS settings, what fuel pimp, etc. Stalling at idle at high elevation is generally going to indicate rich, but you need more information to really trouble shoot.

    Probably rich. Could be many things, including jetting, float height, dirt air filter, etc. Consider pulling the carbs to get more info. Also consider installing FlexJet2s and the Sporting Wood/ITG foam filter. Both make the bike much easier to work on.

    What's the idle set at?

    If it's less than 1500 RPM it'll occasionally stall.

    Idle is about 1400 rpm now. I tried turning the idle up and it still stalls.

    I'm pretty sure Orangecicle is right about the motor running rich. Now just need to figure out why.

    It's a good idea to know your bike, These are not tough machines to understand. You should trouble shoot this like your deep in Baja. I assume, living in LA your I want to go to the mother land of NA adventure. You bought one of the best machines for it.

    Buy a six pack of your favorite beer, use only tools you carry on your bike, pull the carbs, find out what jets you have and later buy a backup set to carry. Look at the carbs for gumming, replace the jets, install flex jets if you choose.

    Flex jets are nice, but with cv carbs they are very tolerant to altitude change. You really only have one atmosphere your talking about here between big bear and the valley[​IMG]. Not like your going to 12,500.

    By knowing your machine you will be comfortable going deeper into the unknown, lots of tutorials on jet replacement and flex jet install around here.

    You SoCal boys are lucky to have Baja right at your back door, and your lucky to get one of the best liter dirt bikes in the world... Good luck
