I know it has been discussed in several places but I would like to pull it all together. My dealer, Wilson's, in Fresno called KTM and was told by KTM that they had never heard of the problems with the Acerbis tanks leaving residue in the carbs. KTM also told them that they never paid a warranty claim for a dealer cleaning the tanks and carbs.

Wilson's is telling me that they will charge me for cleaning the carbs because they will not get reimbursed by KTM.

Who has had their tanks and carbs cleaned? And what dealer did you got to.

P.S. Wilson's said the only thing I could do to have the problem warranted is to send the tanks back to KTM!

    Thanks

Same here, Scuderia did it under warranty but it doesn't mention it in the reciept.

The tanks hopefully dont have to be cleaned. Some wax or something gets leftover from the manf process, and when it gets heated up in the carbs it sticks. Should be a one time problem. I pour the 1/2 bottle of gas treatment for the fun of it.

I used carb cleaner with the first tank of gas from the dealer. I cleaned them when I put in the Factory carb kit. When I was adjusting the needles after the initial cleaning I noticed that the crud was coming back. It worries me that the crud returned after getting the carbs spotless.

It might very well happen (I hope not!): if you clean only the carbs and not the tanks, the issue might occur again. Sure, the more you put gas and use the bike the more the tanks will be clean (proof is that the wax arrives in your carbs) but it might take some time before the tanks will be pristine. The only way to solve the issue for good and ever is to take off the tanks, empty the gas, put a solvant (I don't have the name of it) in them and shake long enough to make sure that all the wax has been dissolved.

Yep, we're VERY lucky to have someone like Eric at Scuderia to take care of this kind of stuff :thumb

I left a message with Scuderia for the 1000km service. They have not called me back. Don't they like people from outside the City :cry . I will make the treck up to SF to have them work on my bike, as I no longer trust my local dealer.

Working well... I have the Akropovic exhaust and the Summer air box mod. I did two turns out on the air screws since it was too rich at altitude (7000+ ft). I think it may be running a bit rich on the main jets. But until I can get to a dyno I will not have actual CO numbers to look at.

When someone finds out what the name of the cleaner is would you let us know?
