950SM wheels on 950SE ??

    contact CJDesigns/dual Sport warehouse. He/they make a spacer/rotor adapter for the front wheel. Haven't figured out what you need for the rear, maybe it bolts right up?

    from the reading I've done it sounds like you use the stock 300mm rotor on the SE on the SD wheels (with his adapter), so no need for a caliper relocation bracket and such. stock caliper, etc.

    I am going to start looking into a 17"/17" setup in the very near future as I plan to take my SE on the track in the southeast soon (I sometimes help instruct the novice group with a local track day org). I understand all about the 17 vs 19" front but for my use (track and mountains) I want the 17" front because of better sport rubber that only comes in 17" sizes.

    I have a few wheels around (17", 18", 19" inch rear and 20", 21" fronts) for my 450 so might just throw a few things on the SE one of these days and see what fits. I have a 320mm rotor and relocation bracket for the 450 as well would be curious to see the difference in bolt patterns and spacing as well..

    anyway keep us posted on what you find and the costs to mount the SD wheels on the SE. enquiring minds want to know... :ear

    I'm almost 100% positive that the front wheel from my 05 450 exc will direct fit on the SE with the SE spacers and axle.

    The rear SM will bolt right up with no changes, other than chain length.

    Front is a CJ designs rotor mount and spacer kit, as mentioned above.

    Rear straight in, so long as you have the SM disc and sprocket carrier.

    Front needs SE spacers modifying and fitting to the SM wheel, SM disc reversing and a bit of work on the speedo sensor. All DIY stuff :)

    Handles great, turns in really good. But front brake is not as good as it should be for a road bike.

    Great info. :clap so I can use the original spacer rear, and then buy spacer front to align the brake disc from CJDesigns.
    Should I go for better front brakes? The original is 300mm, cant see a 320mm will make a huge different. a stronger caliper maybe? How about gearing? 17-38 will this be okay on the SE?

    Better caliper with a bigger disc will make a big difference. Several options, the easiest bolt-ons are Beringer 4 or 6 piston axial with 310mm disc (they make a really nice cast iron one), Motomaster 4 piston with 320mm disc, or the best budget option is the gold Brembo 4 piston and 320mm disc with the adapter bracket that Mr. Peanuts above makes for a very fair price. I've got one and it's nice! You can also change to a radial caliper with a QTMI bracket, although they are not cheap and most radial calipers are pretty wide so you have to watch spoke clearances.

    Personally If I was going canyon carving I would fit a hardparts/Braking 320mm disc and a 4 piston Brembo with one of my brackets.

    Normal road use is fine, just remember you are on a heavy, fast bike with a slightly too small brake. Good quality fresh brake fluid is a must.
