Thought I'd get this out there early.

Now in its 96th year, the longest-running motorcycling road event in the nation, Ramapo Motorcycle Club's Crotona Midnight Run, kicks off at Midnight on February 15, 2014. This mid-winter overnight timed road rally through New York's dark and frigid Hudson Valley is only for the hardiest riders out there - or at least for those who have invested in quality heated gear! In honor of the return to "mainstream" manufacturing of the iconic Indian marque, any rider signing up for the ride aboard a 2014 Indian will have all entry fees waved. More details to follow.

    Eddie,
You read my mind. Was checking out the Ramapo
website yesterday, saw there was no updated info
and was thinking WTF? Dick Roberts still the grand Poobaa?
The kewl thing about this year is that the date falls
EXACTLY on full moon. Hope for clear skies.

You won't get the route until you sign up.
Sign up USUALLY starts around 10:30 or 11:00 Saturday night.
NO GPS's (obviously), just a time piece and the , provided, route sheet.
It's "old school", and works pretty well.

I signed up for and rode down to yonkers feb 2012, the day before last year's run, from upstate ny, riding in a bit of snow on the last several miles. Well the day of the run, when I called their number to check in their was a message the run was canceled due to the possibility of snow. I ended riding 150 miles home in 34 degree rain which was a good ride just the same.
When I contacred dick, he said he canceled it because a few years back some guy tried to sure their Club because he fell during the run due to rode conditions. It cost ramapo Club over 8000 in legal fees to defend and win, but they were o it 8000.
Karma will visit that motorcycle rider one way or the other.
I have since gotten in touch with the daughter of the couple who ran this event the 60s, 70s and into the 80s. She said the only time the run didn't go off then they ran it was once when there was an ice storm, only 5 bikers could make it on the ice to the start. Being they didn't have 6 which was the minimum number to hold the event, they took the bikers for a bire to eat,
In the 70s during the oil embargo, to ensure there would be gas at the mid point, the crotona mc hired a gas truck to wait there for the bikes.
Now people sue others to benefit from their own shortcomings.
Ill try again this year to be a part of the run to keep the legacy alive. Anyone planning to attend should watch the weather and if it looks like snow contact dick or ramapo mc to verify it is still on before heading there. ?.. unless, like me, you just enjoy the ride anyway.
At some point ill post a writeup about my 8600 mile 17 day ride across america and back from september 2012, and my ride to the end of the road in august 2013 on this site, with the route plans, pics and links to videos for anyone that is interested.

Wow, I wonder what douchebag that was. His name should be made publically available so we can laugh and make fun of that reatart.

In a similar circumstance. The reason why there is no parking at the Javitz center during the motorcycle show anymore is because a few years back some idiot decided to do burnouts and wheelies in front of the place, he ended up falling and cracking his head open.

He sued the Javitz center....AND WON!!!

We rode to the Javits this year ( ok technically it was last year) and there was FREE motorcycle ONLY parking...

I meant no free parking offered by the Javits center itself. This year Jesse, Brad and the rest of the NYMSTF got the NYPD and DOT to allow us to block off parking...on the street...for motorcycles only.

In years past, you could park at the Javits itself.

Any idea if this is still a go? Think the streets in the area will be cleared in time? I'm guessing not, or possibly some road closures from downed powerlines and poles might have killed off the preselected route. This would be 2 in a row, arghhhhh

Don't forget- we're due another 2-4 inches of snow tonight into tomorrow mid day.

    Nothing posted yet.

    UPDATE:
On their website, they have the same notice up from last year about it being cancelled. No update on their FB page either

Can the ADV midnight run be on whether we get rain, sleet, or snow? Next winter I'll have studs.

Eddie, to pull off a run like this you need a number of things:
1- someone to lay out a route and define the check points (on the mile or .5 mile)
2- checkers to stand post and check in the riders
3- riders to show up making it worth your time.

I have put on 2 timed runs on long island and only had 6 riders show up to participate each time. In order to be fair to the riders you need to have a minimum 6 check points for 100 mile ride. If you can secure 2 and 3 I would be more than happy to help with (1). Just keep in mind the folks that do 1 and 2 cannot be part of 3.
