As in just strap it down so it doesn't blow out?
Basically cross the glass with safety wire.
Ok, that's what I thought you meant. Thanks.
Is the BMW boxer oil site glass actually made of glass?
The clear window on mine appears to be plastic.
My 2002 oil sight glass was plastic. The new one is glass.
I'm using one of these to keep it from falling out:
I've been testing it for an inmate that is close to production, I'll PM him and point him to this thread.
Please tell us more about that little gadget.
I don't know from this thread if the OP has purchased a set of your DVDs but I would highly recommend them. Watching them and then doing one of these jobs becomes like working with a patient, highly knowledgeable friend. I think this procedure is covered in the DVDs, yes?
Thanks, yes, in the Repair DVD.
It clamps onto a fin near the sight glass and keeps the thing from popping out. I thought I had a picture of it installed, but can't find it...I'll try and get you a pic soon.
Like I did

This is on the 1150, not sure if the 1100 fins are the same?
mine blew out in colorado a couple months ago. i also broke the first i put in. its a little bitch. put a second one in and it was seeping so i said f it and brought it to the dealer to reapair. they also replaced some o ring by the sparkplug the said was leaking. i dunno. i carry an extra one with me now.
Probably the donut that seals the spark plug tunnel on the OHV cover.
Safety wire for the win!
It was embarrassingly simple.
Chap on the UKGSER site making these-
Looks like something Touratech would do. Overkill for a mostly non-issue if you ask me.
