Just finished several mods to my stock 2008 xr650l. My son and I put 14/48 new sprockets on the bike. De-smogged it. Put a Kouba lowering link (and shortened kick stand). Found a used Clarke Tank and installed that. All is good so far.

The only I have left on my current list is re-jetting the carb. I have the jets and have downloaded Dave's carb mods. Never done a carb mod so could use some experienced help. Any advice? Just follow the instructions? Anyone available to help/supervise?

Thrope has done that to his bike. Might want to give a shout.

Are you dyslexic or do you always misspell my name on purpose?!? :lol3

Yeah Phil, I've done it, nothing to it!! Jan/Feb is a slower time for me at work, if you ever have a weekday off, let me know. We can knock it out.

So Trhope, I was looking at Craigslist and came across this ad and noticed that it had a description that I recognized. Question: Why?

Anyone got a good recommendation for motorcycle insurance?

I've been using State Farm for years since they're my primary carrier, but I was price-shopping and Allstate was much cheaper. They said it was a completely different policy from my car, so I'm guessing maybe the sub it out? Just seeing if anyone uses a bike-specific carrier they'd recommend.

    Thanks!

Back when I got the bike in 2008, I got a motorcycle policy with progressive, brokered through Blanchard and Calhoun.
I've been meaning to lump it into my USAA account with everything else and keep forgetting. Thanks for the reminder!!

Btw, my amazing wife brought Thorpe boy #2 into the world yesterday. Both Melissa and lil' Will are doing great! :clap

Saved over $425/yr switching my bikes to Allstate. Crazy. I need to shop my insurance more often.

Congrats on the new little man!

Sorry for getting on the insurance question late. I pay $480 per year for the Xr 650 and BMW GSA with progressive. Been with them several years and several bikes and no claims this far.

Here's a photo of the 2008 Honda XR650L that a couple of you saw as stock before Christmas. I'm new to Hondas (bought this one December) but been having a blast. Easy and cheap compared to omy old Harley. I was going to do handle bar upgrade on the Harley once. When the parts and labor hit 1700 I decided not to.

The Honda now has a Clarke translucent tank, Kouba lowering link (fits my inseam now), SW-Motech side and top rack along with frame support, new sprockets, Acerbis Handguards, and de-smogged. I am not even close to the cost of the Harley handlebar mod.

    Nice!!

Anybody up for a ride midweek during Masters Week? I'm craving some Heavy's BBQ...

Hey Phil, we still gotta get that bike uncorked; that's the best mod of all; and the cheapest!!
