Either. This is my first dual-sport, so I definitely would like to find some dirt to explore. I've rebuilt vintage bikes for years, even do hacks, but this is the first thing remotely dirt worthy I've ever owned. I reckon the terrain down here is probably a little more conducive to a n00b learning than the loose sand where I'm from. Paved curves work too.

If projects go as planned tonight and tomorrow, I may be chasing the GA tag this weekend. :D

I saw you today I think heading west on Washington road by the lowes, I was behind you and beside you on an older KLR 650. I was not ATGATT as I was just out grabbing some parts, you were all suited up with a nice bike and had NC plates on. I will have some time off the next couple weeks if you want to ride. I am actually moving up to your area Pinehurst very soon.

Yup, that was me. I was at the Ronald McDonald house all morning, and we did lunch at Shanes. I figured it had to be an inmate on a KLR.

Wrangler, what spurs the move to Pinehurst area? Let me know when you get up that way and I'll show you around. It really is a great area.

I did a short ride yesterday to explore some old cemeteries buried in the woods. I was severely mistaken about the terrain here. You guys have all the loose sand that my neck of NC has, and you have the added bonus of wet red clay. After nearly crashing for the 5th time, I decided to head back to the hardball. I have a lot to learn about wrestling a 400lb dual sport around in the sand and slip, and learning it in the middle of nowhere without anyone around or even knowing where I was riding didn't seem like a smart idea.

I did find one neat bit of history though. A copperhead sighting right at the entrance to this kept me from exploring too much.

:lol3 Yes you learn fast. Wet Red Clay and knobbies are a challenge, but Wet Red Clay and those tires = :muutt

You will want to get some knobbies, however if you stay south you will be at home. Pretty much East, North, and West especially West you will be in trouble if is remotely wet. There are a lot of dirt roads to explore around here.

Haha, Yes Jman I did just get back, which has sort of spurred this upcoming move. Gonna miss Augusta and the local area, but won't be too far away. High possibility I will be back in a few years

Will let you know, I see your posts in the Raleigh, Fayetteville thread..will hit you up when you return back..I will be living, smack dap in the middle of Pinehurst on #1..and will be riding into work when weather permits..you can probably answer a question I have about riding in on Morgonton rd rather than Manchester..it is dirt for about 15 miles I think..how nasty does it get?

Stop by the ranger shed on main post and get a proper map. Going straight in on Morganton is pretty easy, but can land you in a impact area really quick if you don't know the trails. Oh, and don't get caught, and don't do it in hunting season. The whole reservation is hunted during deer season.

Running the Manchester 500 isn't bad depending on when you do it. I'm normally heading through there around 0500 and things are pretty clear. Traffic picks up around 0545. It is always busy in the afternoons. When I take the trails, I generally do it in the afternoons.

The Teresa's on Boy Scout Rd always seems to be a great place; huge front porch we can sit on and make all the noise we want...

Seems like I read a while back that some guys from this group were going to Silverton, CO. Is that the trip mentioned in the quote above?
