    All,
the last time that i was on a cross country ride, i had the bright idea to read a wonderful book .

This book and the accompanying audiobook provided the perfect backdrop to my South West US tour. I loved it so much that i made a detour to Kit Carson's hometown.

I want to study a book that is on a similar scale of historic interpretation and literary finesse. An accompanying audiobook would be stellar.
I do not need to know the history of the mexican people from time immemorial. A sweep of the last few hundred years covering the American-Mexican wars, spanish conquests, and portraits of Villa and Zapata would suffice. All in one or two books would be great-o.

    This one is looking good

While we are at it, some suggestions on mexican cinema would be great. :-)

    Mucho gracias,

:deal Two books I loved were "La Capital" (about Mexico City,) and "The Annexation of Mexico" by John Ross.
You're so right... A little background info makes it all come to life.

I'm reading that Villa Zapata book right now. Its a little tedious at times but so far its kept my attention well enough. And I'm ADD. I'm certainly learning a lot. I'd recommend it.

I'm also looking for some literature on the Tarahumara and other native people of the canyons if any one has a recommendation.
