A couple LC4 torque specs please...

    I'm getting ready to put a Rekluse clutch in my 2003 640 Adventure in a couple days. I believe the cover bolts are M6 and 10 nm, but what about the nut that holds the clutch basket in, a 27mm I believe? Also, with the Rekluse installed, how can I hold the clutch assembly while I tighten that nut back down without the special clutch holding tool?

    According to the manual: Loctite 243 + 100 nm/60 ft lbs.

    Note that 100nm is actually about 75 foot pounds. :deal

    The manual for the older bikes (which look like they use the same clutch) call for Loctite 242 and 80nm. Which is actually 60ft lbs.

    Choose wisely. :rofl


    Why are you installing the recluse before installing the nut? According to the manual (and my experience) you should install the nut first, then the clutch plates and cover. I usually put the bike in top gear and hold the rear brake while tightening this nut.

    Just did mine(no recluse), can't remember if I used the gearbox and the rear brake(chain anf rear wheel hooked up) or used a chunk of wood(a square handle piece from an old wire brush) to jam the gear. Or both?

    Either way I use the air wrench and 90 psi to torque things to spec.

    Don't forget the red Loctite, clean the threads with disc brake cleaner.

    Don't do it this way...it's wrong.

    Thanks for the torques. I've never done more than replaced plates, so I figured that once the pressure plate was off and springs and plates were removed that I wouldn't have any connection between the crank and the transmission, therefore no way to hold the crank still with the rear tire. Make sense? I'll see tomorrow night. It'll either work or it won't! So, being a torque wrench kinda guy (after spending DAYS replacing broken splice case bolts in telephone cable manholes from an "un-calibrated" impact wrench) I'm leaning towards the clean thread-loctite-60ft/lbs method. On that subject, how long does Loctite take to set? (Calling Dirty Sanchez, Dirty Sanchez to the Red line please...) I'm riding to a buddys shop tomorrow, swapping the clutches tomorrow night, then riding to work the next morning, so 8-10 hrs or so...

    The outer basket is free on the transmission primary shaft, and is geared to the crank. The inner hub is tight to the same shaft, held by the big nut.
