With the last day of my holidays upon me I thought it might be good for the soul to spend a few hours in the Adelaide Hills checking out some new tracks.
With an overnight minimum temperature hovering near freezing it was a chilly start to the day up Anstey’s Hill

    Through Paracombe

    and onto Gorge Road

and then off on some of the minor roads. It certainly was brisk, with condensation rising as the sun hit the frosty paddocks

from there I picked up a track I’d previously been on but only one way, which was predominately downhill. This time I thought I’d tackle it the other way

    Lots of nice views

And gates that were open (or you could easily get around)

Later on I found another nice looking track

That was still covered in frost even though it was getting late into the morning

With very little traction I bailed out of this one and put it down for checking on another day

Then it was on to the Old Cherryville Road

Before cutting back towards Lobethal . I had a look down Golf Links Road

But after some fun in the mud on a recent Darling River Run I thought I’d leave that to a drier time
    and the Old Mount Road

Before I knew it I was edging my way down this rather steep track that was a lot softer than the last time I’d been down

with a creeping fear that I wouldn’t be able to get back up if I needed to. I knew there was a gate at the bottom and it had always been open. Thank God it still was!!

    Then on to

Where there was indeed a nice waterhole

My next lead started out pretty boggy

But soon opened up to a nice bit of track

Interesting… there was no sign on the open gate at the other end

By this stage I was getting pretty hungry and it looked like I’d have to leave checking some of the other tracks until another day.
Mt Baker sounded like as good as place as any

To find what I was looking for

Then it was a quick burst back down the freeway and home. Amazing how 5hours just flew by!

Right around my neck of the woods. I used to blast the tracks around Sandy Waterhole Rd often back when I had my TE610, great fun and rarely a soul to be seen.

So Sir Robert even got a mountain named after him? We have a Torrens land titles system in our province. And I recall he laid out your city plan.

Thanks for posting; we're overdue for another visit. I like that motorcycle museum way up in the hills. And the animal park nearby, with the Inland Taipan.

Good one Greg, at the time you were riding these tracks we were in 30' swell, running 6.5 hours late missing our flights home....$751 each for air fares Sydney to Adelaide....wettest day in Sydney for years !!!!

Love some of those tracks, well done

    Hi Terry

I hope some warm weather and idyllic locations made up for problems at the end of your trip.. and that your travel insurance coughs up for your airfares:eek1

Give us buzz sometime and we’ll hook up for a ride through there

    Cheers:thumb

Yea it was good...bit of water fun at Port Villa, Tree to Tree in Noumea, plus 3 other stops on the islands....all in clear sky & 22-25c...I have some water fun on my youtube. I used my gopro on Port Villa harbor.

Put the travel insurance claim form in Monday so fingers crossed.
