Looks like a good stretch of weather coming up for the Island next week if you are headed out this way...

I am indeed, Gunnerbuck tho I think I'll have as many clothes on as I've got plus my rain suit to get through this morning. Not super cold but the chill factor is mighty, well, chilling. Could do with my heated grips working! At least it's not raining and there's some blue sky and sun out there.
Hope to be on the Island tonight.

22.4 Celcius at my place this evening and not a cloud in the sky, perfect riding weather, too bad I had to work today..

If you get up to the central Island Sat/Sun I am going to take a spin to the west side and check on the bears, if that kind of stuff interests you..

Okay, Gunnerbuck - will see how the social situation is and try and let you know in enough time. Sounds like fun.

Okay - so stayed in Cache Creek last night. Cold and wet when I stopped to get some gas and something to eat and asked if anyone knew a good place to stay in Lilooet. No one did and by that time I'd got to that point where you know you just need to stop otherwise things could get ugly. So I got a room at the Sandman Inn. Quiet night as I'd eaten "lunch" late and that did for supper as well. Great to get a good night's sleep without waking up and being aware how cold it was! After camping for almost a week it was nice to have a little bit of luxury. Slept so well I was up early and outside where I ran into Sandy and Laura (I think - forgive me if I got that wrong) who'd just picked up their new bike. And what a bike. IMG_0938.JPG
I'm not a Harley fan in that they are just not my thing BUT I'm really fascinated by them and have enjoyed, so much, meeting the people who own them. We ended up by chance I. The same restaurant for breakfast and talked about quite a few things and places we had been in common - Ft Chip, Uranium City, Stoney Rapids and the ice road to Ft Smith. places I hadn't had a reason to think about in years. Rally nice people and dammit it all they bought my breakfast without telling me and disappeared before I knew about it and could thank them. We'd talked about the principle of "Giving Forward" and they lived by their word. If you ever read this guys, thank you. I will proceed likewise!
On the road then and what a road. North on 97 and then west and south on 99. Say no more but first a couple of snaps of Cache Creek - IMG_0941.JPG Well, actually, only one. This emporium was no longer wanderableinable. Onwards, ever onwards. Some snaps along the way:-

Scenes of the recent fires - smell of smoke and burning still in the air.

And more - P1040949.JPG First snow of the season - seems strange to be thinking snow in September but, I have to keep reminding myself, this is Canada, not Scotland. Sandy, who had bought me breakfast, showed me a photo he been sent from a mate in Grand Cache, Alberta, where they had a good couple of inches of the white stuff at much lower levels than here in BC! Hopefully there won't be any on the road through Whistler tomorrow! Meanwhile - on the road to Pemberton....... a mother bear and her two cubs ( okay there's only one in this photo) P1050095.JPG

I am looking at the forecast and thinking of leaving from Campbell River late Saturday afternoon and camping along the way to the spawning rivers that night and then checking them out Sunday morning.. I live about 1.5-2 hrs. north of the ferry landing in Nanaimo depending on which route you use, if the weather looks bad for Saturday night you can camp in my spare room and we can ride out from here on Sunday am..
If this fits in with your schedule..

    Damn, damn, damn.
Okay, I've got to confess - after 8500 miles of upright driving the bike finally got tired and needed a wee lie down. As usual, just coming to a stop but on a little slope I hadn't factored into my stopping calculations so, put the foot down, the ground was an inch or two more away and by that time there's no stopping the inevitable! Very annoyed as I was aiming to prove I could be let loose on my own and behave myself, completing the whole trip without lying down on the job. No damage other than my pride.
    You may now laugh!

I am likely riding again on Tuesday out of Campbell River as well unless the weather is crappy ...

Enjoy your time on the Island..
