Read some of ILuvUMan's drivel in CS+M and you will soon become open to the possibility of reanimated brain-dead folks.

Go read some of the prepper and "zombie appox'olipse" boards and blogs. When you have guys hording crates of MREs buying tens of thousands of rounds of ammoes, and seriously discussing the merits of a particular implement as the best way to dispatch "zombies" it's not a joke. Might be a stupid escapist meme, but when you have people spending (and making) real money off something it's not a joke.

Today’s new zombie fad is a reflection of an unhappiness in society, a researcher has claimed.

Agreed. This whole 'zombie' fascination is a guise for an unhealthy obsession.

My obsession for having a multitool, advil, claritin, spare contacts/glasses, a flashlight, some 550cord, and a handful of granola bars in my backpack that stays in the truck?

Sometimes you have a headache and want a snack while sitting in traffic otw home. :dunno

(just because that bag also holds a pistol, +2 loaded mags, ka-bar knife, and a climbing carabiner; doesnt mean a thing) :hide

I think "zombie purse", GHB, BOB, EDC etc are all silly phrases.

I think carrying a multitool, flashlight, mobile phone, spare cash, headache and allergy meds, water and snacks is eminently sensible whenever one is away from the comforts of home for any significant time.

I just don't think you need to pretend that common sense and a little self-reliance turns you into a ninja for the modern dystopia. But if such terms are what is needed to encourage common sense, carry on.

    first of all

    it is anti-zombie purse

    and it is fucking funny

and if I have to take a 20 mile urban hike home someday for what the fuckever reason

    I want a flashlight
something to change into if I was in a suit
    sensible shoes
    water
    calories
    a leatherman
    a street map
a pocket fm radio to listen to while I am walking home to see why in fuck all I had to walk home in the first place
    some more water
not carrying some cordage and a way to make fire is just silly
you got a knife, water and a way to make fire you'll survive three days of anything
this shit all fits in a about one half of a book bag in a corner of your trunk

    as for guns

    I just like guns

    and titties

titties are harder to pack in an anti-zombie purse though

(anti-zombie purse is a copyrighted phrase and you each owe me a nickel everytime you say it)

be nice when the whackos calm the fuck down and I actually buy some goddamn ammo again though

No shit. When the gun control scare started I went out and bought a new pistol and a few hundred rounds (because I like to shoot, not because I'm scared of zombies). Low and behold, shell prices have skyrocketed :eek1

I was contemplating my "get home bag" needs the other day. Since the first of this year my job has changed and I now work in a fairly heavily fortified/armed building which is about 150 yards from my home. I can literally make the walk from my office to my back door in about three minutes. If I was in a hurry I could do it in about one minute. Hmmmmm. :hmmmmm

Well, dang. You should just pack a book, cause that's gonna be the most boring disaster ever.

Well he missed the point entirely.

He's already home, so he doesn't need any of that stuff.

Improve your position. Fortification. Different topic. :D

I do have a computer bag that makes a pretty good impromtu SHTF bag, but it's getting pretty ratty, having been through a deployment to A-stan and many years of business and skewl trips.

Daughter is getting old enough to start thinking about hiking/camping. So I am beginning to think about a replacement for the above and something that can go hiking ( I'm not :dic enough to want a dedicated BoB). I'm thinkin' one of the lightweight backpacks that come with a "day pack". Big one for me, little one for her and that both can serve as readiness gear.

    Any suggestions?
