I went over to Scott's last night to gear the bike down by adding a larger rear sproket the bike is in SERIOUS need of some love. I dont know how I let it go for so long, probably because the bike never has any problems...

the rear sprocket was missing three teeth and the rest of it looked like a saw blade, the chain guard on the engine is damaged beyond repair (mount broke off), broken spoke.... so im going to change the rear sprocket with the same gearing for now and limp it through this weekend then go over the whole thing as I become unemployed here soon.

    :lol3 :lol3 Brilliant.

Eatpasta, isn't it amazing how much more attention a bike needs if you start taking it racing? Almost immediately things start breaking/wearing out.

I thought these racing guys were smoking something when I read how much they have to spend on their machines. Now its starting to make sense.

I wish I could get 500 miles out of a set of tires. 4 races is pushing it for a rear. That's probably 250-300 miles.

Along with the added wear and maintenance associated with racing and training for racing, I find that because I am forced to do more work on the bike, repairs that only months ago were intimidating are now no big deal :D

In that respect, racing gets your mechanical skills, confidence and understanding of how you bike works up to a whole new level. At least it has for me. :1drink

Scott and i were having this discussion the other night... and I dont have a garage in which to work so much of my maintenance is done blitzkrieg style in other peoples' garages.

I literally dream about having a garage

I couldn't survive without a garage. When I was a renter, that was the #1 criteria when looking for a new domicile :lol3

The last couple of days have been trying. I had a blowout on my truck coming home from the club meeting tues night, 75 mph on the 14, left front on my 1961 Chevy. No jack or wrench :bluduh but I did have a spare. Luckily another club member wasn't far behind me, and he lives less than a mile from where it happened :clap He went home for the needed tools and I made it home.

Then I get in the truck this morning, pump the gas to start it and the damn throttle cable breaks :baldy I love commuting in my motohome.

I have used the 525 for that in the past, but it's not really an ideal street bike, and at the moment, while it has a plate on it, it is far from being street legal :evil

I have been leaking money here lately, and buying another bike is not an option. I just spent a bunch of money on a computer upgrade for the shop that left my credit card laying in a smouldering heap.
