    Oh hi, it's me.

Long time lurker, first post here. I lived in Rhode Island for 7 years, but for many reasons was looking for a change. Since I started riding, I was inspired by the extended travel trips I read about in books and forums. A bit of math and a lot of nail biting later, I started a year long process of paring down my belongings and acquiring skills and gear. As of May 5th, I put the rest in storage, and for the next 4 months (or longer) I'm taking my 250cc Vespa GTS around the US!

    Goodbye, winter!

    The route, roughly:

Total mileage: I don't know! In the past, my tendency for long trips was to plan everything through to the end of the trip, so I'm trying to take my time and let things take shape instead. There's lots of the country to see. I've been wanting, planning, and slowing kitting out my Vespa to do a cross country trip for over a year, so I may as well pace myself.

I'm hoping to crash with friends, camp, AirB, and once in a while maybe getting spendy on a motel. Budget is pretty slim to make it last 4 months, but that's part of the challenge, isn't it?

    The ride:

Also, I work as an artist, and will be not only be working along the way, but doing one drawing per day of whatever strikes me. All of the daily posts will appear on my blog: http://250superhero.blogspot.com/

The stuff in between I'd like to make into a summary type post on the blog, and I'd also like to share it here. I'm inspired reading others' ride reports, and even though I'm on a scooter, I'd love to meet other ADVers along the way. Someday, I'd love to ride in another continent too (I took a weekend jaunt into Ottawa on the scoot, but it's actually not too far from home). Hopefully this is the appropriate place.

I'm updating from Philadelphia, a scant 280 miles from my former home in Providence; so just the beginning of the tour. Hope you enjoy reading along!

I've been looking at bigger bikes dreaming about a long trip. After looking at the ride reports, I think my current one is ok. Haha.

Good luck and have fun! I am just north of Santa Barbara California if you run into any trouble or need a place to crash.

Looking forward to this one, too! We have had Viol-ator riding around the SW and playing his carbon fiber viola as he goes, and now we have a second artist on a very long ride making art along the way. Cool! :D

    Hey,

Sound like a great trip. I did a similar trip in 08-09. I'm in V.A and have plenty of free camping space if you need. Safe travels and have a blast.

    Best,Ted.

    Way to go!

Once around the country on a Luxo Barge is just a ride.

Doing it on a Scooter is an Adventure! :D

Plus, you don't soak your legs when you ride through a puddle. :evil

Oh yeah, I'm in on this.

Your long lost SoCal scooter family awaits. I ride in a monthly scooter group which is just south of L.A., we'll keep an eye on your thread and make it a point to meet up with you.

Truly an adventure of a lifetime, many of us will live vicariously through your travels.

    All the best,
