Patrick, I know, you are thinking that I messed up. But, actually that was merely a test to see if anyone was paying attention. I often put such 'mistakes' in my RR's on purpose, such as the Matchless pic. I guess you are the only one to notice it. There is no prize, only the knowledge that you are more astute & observant than anyone else.

We passed thru Samsun where the week before there had been some bad floods. The road had been cleared off, but there was still mud on it, and we could see where the flood had washed over the whole area, washing away cars, & generally making a mess. I had heard that a lot of people died during it. We rode along the coast, & got to Ordu, where we spent the nite. There is a mountain next to the town, with a cable ar ride to the top, so we went on that. Great views, you could see for many miles.
We were looking for some dinner, & passed by a window where a guy was making these small pizzas, so we decided to try them. They were SO good! Thin crust, with sheep meat & some other stuff on them. Its one of the best things I have had in Turkey, and they do have a lot of tasty food here!

Floods in samsun, at least the main road was open, we didn’t see the rest of the town

We stopped by to visit Mehmet, who has a small store here, & I met him a couple years ago. My friend Cem, who took me to the monastery last year couldn’t come to meet us, as his mom is sick, so we had a drink, & headed on to batumi. The border wasn’t too bad, it was crowded, but we worked our way thru it ok.
The Georgian border was easy, & the guards friendly as always. I always like coming to Georgia, its one of my favorite places.
The 2 big downsides to it, the drivers, who seem to gave gotten their driving license as a present, as the roads are total madness.
And the cows. I guess fences still haven’t caught on here, the cows just wander the roads. Theres green grass everywhere, but they want to just stand in the road.
We weaved our way to Batumi, dodging cars & cows. Poly hadn’t seen anything like this before. I warned her, but you really have to experience it.
We found the Eiffel Tower hostel, which is run by Jon & Dan, who are on summer holiday while teaching English here. Nice guys, & a good place to stay.
We decided to stay an extra day here & see the town. It’s a beach town, so lots of touristy crap, but the old part is pretty interesting.

Fun at the border

Today would be like almost every day on the whole trip, friggin HOT! I think every day of the trip except 2 or 3 it was at least 100f, (about 38-40c) We are riding across Georgia, dodging bad drivers & wayward cows, and I see a sign for an old Monastery, & turned down the road. Its only about 5 miles, how bad can it be? Well, after about 2 miles of uphill riding in the rocks, and I stopped again to wait on Poly, I told her I’d see how the rest of it was. So I went on to the top, & came back, proclaiming it ‘passable’
Poly doesn’t have enough experience offroad, and hasn’t got the confidence to just give it some gas & let the throttle help her thru the bad stuff. Not that Im any expert offroad, I suck at it, & I ride slow. But as most of the places I like to visit are not reached by pavement, I just do my best to deal with it. So we make it to the top. Its still working, and is full of nuns. It had been here a really long time, and from the look of some of the nuns, they may have been the founders.

Of course there are cows helping to block the way
