There wasn’t a lot of it tho. We wanted to bypass Tlibisi, the main city. I’d been there a few times, and theres really not much there besides bad traffic. Besides, I really wanted to get into the mountains. I’d never been up there, as the border with Russia was closed, but now it is finally open. Its an awesome road, & the traffic wasn’t too bad.

On the way up, was this old fortress/church

[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

I needed gas, but I hadn’t seen a gas station in quite awhile. Then I saw this one, & stopped. No one was there, but then some old guy came out of the house. He had a chart (handwritten) that showed amounts of gas & the costs. I wasn’t sure how much it would hold, but I made a guess. I manned the pump handle while he went to the controller thing & watched the needle, until I got the gas I paid for. Then we put some in Poly’s bike also.

This looks like mud, but its calcium deposits, many people stop here to have a drink

We stopped at a police station to ask about a hotel, but as all police in Georgia, they didn’t know anything. There was about 20km of dirt/gravel thru here. It wasn’t too bad tho.

We found a small homestay/hotel & spent the nite. It was a nice place, right under a mountain
The next morning it was nice & sunny, although not so warm. It was about 110f yesterday down south, this morning was about 50f. quite a change!

I saw a couple white dots on the side of the mountain, it was these 2 goats playing & chasing each other. I put the zoom lens on the camera to get some pics. Unfortunately, I recently got this camera, & have not figured out all the settings & BS on it. Its WAY smarter than I am…..

Its sort of touristy, and we actually finally met 2 cops doing some sort of job…. They told us we couldn’t park here.

Overlooking the town is this mountain with a church on the top
    [IMG]
It’s a very famous symbol of Geo & the region, and I wanted to visit it. Its only 8km to the top, how bad could it be?
The clouds have moved in, & its starting to rain a little off n on. We start heading up thru the town, & the road gets real bad, real fast. Its getting steeper, and the rocks are getting bigger. Poly decided to wait in the town for me, so off I go.
It was a bad road. And as there had been rain recently, there was a stretch of slick mud, plus a lot of uphill & rocks. It sucked. But it was fun, and I was very happy when I made the top. Several 4x4’s were also there, and I saw several on the way up that were giving up & turning back. Its about 8000feet up at the top, and the church is about 600 years old. I really wish it hadn’t been cloudy, as the surrounding peaks were covered. But it was still pretty awesome. I’d bet not many Harleys had been up here before.

The way back down was more entertaining. I dunno about the rest of you, but going downhill on mud & wet rocks is not my favorite. I found Poly, who had made some new friends.
We gave them a motocamp sticker for their bikes, & headed to the border

I know what you mean. I was there on my enduro bike in July and the way up to the church was just as you describe it. I cannot imagine anybody riding a hog loaded with luggage to the summit. Good job.

I dunno why, but Ive been sick the last several days. Post ride stress disorder or something. Anyhow, I think the best cure is a road trip, so Im gonna take off for a bit, to Serbia, and then ?

road trips are good medicine. true, it may not cure me, but it takes my mind off of being sick :)
Went up to Serbia, & in Kosovo now. Tomorrow to Macedonia, but think I'll detour thru Albania first
